IHS CERA is pleased to announce the China Energy Roundtable to take place in Beijing on Wednesday, November 17, 2010.
As China slowly moves away from energy supply dominated by coal and petroleum, many other supply sources are coming online to help meet the country’s continued demand growth.
During this roundtable, IHS CERA experts will provide fundamentals outlooks for the oil, gas, and power sectors, and will specifically examine currently marginal—but emerging—supply sources that are slowly changing the energy market landscape. Specifically, the roundtable will address the following questions:
- What are the potential impacts of the much-debated carbon tax in China?
- What is contained in the recent policy announcement on promotion of “emerging energy”? How is the term defined?
- As China’s energy supply gradually diversifies away from petroleum and coal, how are the various emerging supply sources effecting changes to the traditional market? And how must market rules and policies change to accommodate them?
- What is the role of coal in China’s energy future? And is it becoming a “versatile fuel” that can penetrate the oil and gas markets?
- In the oil sector, what impact will methanol blending and electric vehicles have on future gasoline demand?
- In the natural gas sector, what is the growth trajectory of coal-to-gas projects and how are they contributing to China growing gas supply?
- In electric power, what is the potential for nuclear and gas-fired power generation? Will they become less marginal and is policy support coming?
