Called “coal’s strongest evangelist” by the New York Times, Gregory H. Boyce is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Peabody Energy, the world’s largest private-sector coal company at a time when coal is the world’s fastest growing fuel. He observes that coal is the only fuel with the scale and cost advantages to deliver global energy security, economic growth and environmental solutions.

Under Boyce’s leadership, Peabody has become one of the leading investments in the world. Boyce trained as a mining engineer and has gained extensive management, operating and engineering experience around the world during a three-decade career in the energy industry. He joined Peabody Energy in 2003 as President and Chief Operating Officer, assumed responsibility for the company as President and Chief Executive Officer in 2006 and became Chairman the following year. 

Prior to joining Peabody, Boyce served as Chief Executive Officer – Energy for international mining company Rio Tinto in London, with responsibility for a worldwide coal and uranium portfolio. Other prior positions include President and Chief Executive Officer of Kennecott Energy Company, President of Kennecott Minerals Company and Executive Assistant to the Vice Chairman of Standard Oil of Ohio. 

Boyce holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Arizona and an Advanced Management Program degree from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Business. His leadership positions include Chairman of the National Mining Association and Deputy Chairman of the Coal Industry Advisory Board of the International Energy Agency.  He is a member of The Business Council, and the National Coal Council (NCC) where he was Study Chair of the council’s report, “Coal: America’s Energy Future.” He is a Board member of the Business Roundtable, the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE) and is a member of the Board of Directors of Marathon Oil Corporation.  In addition, he is a member of the Board of Trustees of St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Washington University in St. Louis and is a member of the Advisory Council of the University of Arizona’s Department of Mining and Geological Engineering.

George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States, was sworn into office on January 20, 2001 and served as Commander in Chief for two consecutive terms. Before his presidency, he served for six years as Governor of the State of Texas.

President Bush was born July 6, 1946, in New Haven, Connecticut, to Barbara and George H.W. Bush—later the 41st President of the United States. In 1948, the family moved to Texas, where President Bush grew up in Midland and Houston. He received a bachelor’s degree in history from Yale University in 1968, and then served as a pilot in the Texas Air National Guard. President Bush received a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School in 1975. Following graduation, he moved back to Midland and began a career in the energy business. After working on his father’s successful 1988 presidential campaign, President Bush led a group of partners that purchased the Texas Rangers baseball franchise in 1989.

On November 8, 1994, George W. Bush was elected the 46th Governor of Texas. He became the first governor in Texas history to be elected to consecutive four-year terms when he was re-elected on November 3, 1998. In Austin, he earned a reputation for his bipartisan governing approach and his compassionate conservative philosophy, which was based on limited government, personal responsibility, strong families, and local control.

As President, George W. Bush worked to expand freedom, opportunity and security at home and abroad. His first initiative as President was the No Child Left Behind Act, a bipartisan measure that raised standards in schools, insisted on accountability in return for federal dollars, and led to measurable gains in achievement—especially among minority students. Faced with a recession when he took office, President Bush cut taxes for every federal income taxpayer, which helped lead to an unprecedented 52 straight months of job creation. President Bush also modernized Medicare by adding a prescription drug benefit that provided access to needed medicine for 40 million seniors and other beneficiaries.

President Bush implemented free trade agreements with more than a dozen nations; empowered America’s armies of compassion by creating USA Freedom Corps and the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives; promoted a culture of life; improved air quality and made America’s energy supply more secure; designated more ocean area habitats for environmental protection than any predecessor; transformed the military to meet the changing threats of the 21st century and nearly doubled government support for veterans; pioneered a new development strategy that tied American foreign aid to reform and good governance; launched global HIV/AIDS and malaria initiatives that have saved millions of lives; expanded the NATO alliance; forged a historic new partnership with India; and appointed Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The most significant event of President Bush’s tenure came on September 11, 2001, when terrorists killed nearly 3,000 people on American soil. President Bush responded with a comprehensive strategy to protect the American people. He led the most dramatic reorganization of the federal government since the beginning of the Cold War, reforming the intelligence community and establishing new institutions like the Department of Homeland Security. He built global coalitions to remove violent regimes in Afghanistan and Iraq that threatened America, liberating more than 50 million people from tyranny. Recognizing that freedom and hope are the best alternative to the extremist ideology of the terrorists, he provided unprecedented American support for young democracies and dissidents in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and elsewhere. In the more than seven years President Bush remained in office following September 11, 2001, the United States was not attacked again.

Since leaving office, President Bush has focused his attention on developing the George W. Bush Presidential Center at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. The Bush Center will be home to a presidential library that preserves and presents the history and archives of the Bush presidency, a museum where visitors will be able to view a replica of the Oval Office and historic artifacts such as the bullhorn President Bush used in his visit to Ground Zero on September 14, 2001, and an innovative, action-oriented Institute. The Bush Institute turns ideas into practical, measurable solutions for pressing public problems with a focus on human freedom, education achievement, global health, and economic prosperity. In all its programs, the Bush Institute engages and empowers women and social entrepreneurs – proven agents of change in society. At its core, the Bush Center will be guided by the same principles that defined the presidency of George W. Bush: freedom, opportunity, responsibility, and compassion.

President Bush is married to Laura Welch Bush, a former teacher and librarian whom he met at a friend’s backyard barbeque. They have twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna, and a son-in-law, Henry Hager. The Bush family also includes two dogs, Barney and Miss Beazley.

William Jefferson Clinton was the first Democratic president in six decades to be elected twice – first in 1992 and then in 1996. Under his leadership, the country enjoyed the strongest economy in a generation and the longest economic expansion in U.S. history, including the creation of more than 22 million jobs.

After leaving the White House, President Clinton established the William J. Clinton Foundation with the mission to strengthen the capacity of people in the United States and throughout the world to meet the challenges of global interdependence. In addition his Foundation work, President Clinton has joined with former President George H.W. Envoy for Tsunami Recovery.

Building on his longstanding commitment to Haiti as President and through his Foundation, President Clinton was named U.N. Special Envoy for Haiti in 2009 to assist the government and the people of Haiti as they “build back better” after a series of hurricanes battered the country in 2008. Following this year’s devastating earthquake, President Clinton dedicated Clinton Foundation resources to help with immediate and long term relief and assistance, and at the request of President Obama, joined with President George W. President Clinton was born on August 19, 1946, in Hope, Arkansas. He and his wife Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton have one daughter, Chelsea, and live in Chappaqua, New York.

Christophe de Margerie was born in 1951.

He joined the Group in 1974 after graduating from the École Supérieure de Commerce de Paris, a French business school. He served in several positions in the Group’s Finance Department and Exploration & Production division.

He became President of Total Middle East in 1995 before joining the Group’s Executive Committee as the President of the Exploration & Production division in May 1999.

In 2000, he was appointed Senior Executive Vice President of the Exploration & Production division of the newly created TotalFinaElf group.

In January 2002, he became President of the Exploration & Production division of TotalFinaElf which became Total in 2003. Following the May 12, 2006, Shareholders’ Meeting, he was appointed a member of the Board of Directors of Total. On February 14, 2007, Christophe de Margerie became Chief Executive Officer of Total, chairing its Executive Committee.

Following the May 21, 2010, Shareholders’ Meeting, he was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer by the Board of Directors of Total.

Christophe de Margerie is Knight of the Legion of Honour (Légion d’Honneur) and Officer of the National Order of Merit (Ordre National du Mérite), two French National Orders.

Robert (Bob) Dudley became Chief Executive of BP plc on 1 October 2010.  He was appointed to the BP Executive Management Team and BP Board of Directors in April 2009.

Following the Gulf of Mexico incident, Bob served as the President and CEO of BP’s Gulf Coast Restoration organisation in the United States.  Prior to this Bob oversaw the BP Group’s activities in Asia and the Americas. 

From 2003-2008 he served as President and CEO of TNK-BP in Moscow.  Previous roles included Group Vice President responsible for BP’s upstream businesses in Angola, Egypt, Russia, the Caspian Region and Algeria; and Group Vice President for BP’s Renewables and Alternative Energy activities, including solar and wind.

Bob has worked broadly across the international oil industry.  From 1994 through 1997, prior to the merger with BP, he was responsible for corporate development of Amoco’s upstream and downstream businesses in Russia.  He also worked on the restructuring of oil and gas R&D activities in the US, and between 1987 and 1993 he was involved in the negotiation and development of projects in the South China Sea.  In the 1980s he served in a variety of commercial and operating roles in the US and in the UK sector of the North Sea, working in Chicago, Aberdeen and Houston.

Ditlev Engel is the President and CEO of Vestas Wind Systems A/S which he joined in May 2005.

He is a member of the General Council as well as the Industrial Policy Committee of The Confederation of Danish Industries. Ditlev Engel also serves on several energy policy councils and advisory panels, including the Industry Advisory Group of the International Energy Agency in Paris and the International Advisory Panel on Energy of the Singaporean Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Prior to joining Vestas in 2005, Ditlev Engel served as Group President and CEO of Hempel A/S (Denmark), for which company he also worked 12 years abroad, before taking over as Group President and CEO.

itlev Engel holds a Diploma in Business Economics from Copenhagen Business School in Denmark and has attended a general management programme at INSEAD in France.

Henry Alfred Kissinger was sworn in on September 22, 1973, as the 56th Secretary of State, a position he held until January 20, 1977.  He also served as Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs from January 20, 1969, until November 3, 1975.  In July 1983 he was appointed by President Reagan to chair the National Bipartisan Commission on Central America until it ceased operation in January 1985, and from 1984-1990 he served as a member of the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board.  From 1986-1988 he was a member of the Commission on Integrated Long-Term Strategy of the National Security Council and Defense Department.  He has served as a member of the Defense Policy Board since 2001.

At present, Dr. Kissinger is Chairman of Kissinger Associates, Inc., an international consulting firm.  He is also a member of the International Council of J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.; a Counselor to and Trustee of the Center for Strategic and International Studies; an Honorary Governor of the Foreign Policy Association; and an Honor Member of the International Olympic Committee.  Among his other activities, Dr. Kissinger is a member of the Board of Directors of ContiGroup Companies, Inc. and an Advisor to the Board of Directors of American Express Company.  He is also a member of the Advisory Board of Forstmann Little and Co.; a Trustee Emeritus of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; a Director Emeritus of Freeport-McMoRan Copper and Gold Inc.; and a Director of the International Rescue Committee.

Among the awards Dr. Kissinger has received have been the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973; the Presidential Medal of Freedom (the nation’s highest civilian award) in 1977; and the Medal of Liberty (given one time to ten foreign-born American leaders) in 1986.

Dr. Kissinger was born in Fuerth, Germany, came to the United States in 1938 and was naturalized a United States citizen in 1943.  He served in the Army from 1943 to 1946.  He graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College in 1950 and received M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard University in 1952 and 1954.

From 1954 until 1969 he was a member of the faculty of Harvard University, in both the Department of Government and the Center for International Affairs.  He was Director of the Harvard International Seminar from 1952 to 1969.

John W. Rowe is the chairman and chief executive officer of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation, one of the nation’s largest electric utilities.  Its retail affiliates serve 5.4 million customers in Illinois and Pennsylvania, and its generation affiliate operates the largest fleet of nuclear power plants in the nation.

Industry Leadership
Rowe is the senior chief executive in the utility industry, having served in such positions since 1984.  Rowe has led Exelon since its formation in 2000 through the merger of PECO Energy and the parent of Commonwealth Edison.  Rowe previously held chief executive officer positions at the New England Electric System and Central Maine Power Company, served as general counsel of Consolidated Rail Corporation, and was a partner in the law firm of Isham, Lincoln & Beale.  Rowe is the past chairman of the Nuclear Energy Institute and the Edison Electric Institute.  He is co-chairman of the National Commission on Energy Policy, an industry and environmental organization dealing with climate change, and serves on the Secretary of Energy’s Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future, a panel to provide recommendations on managing used nuclear fuel and waste.  He is a the lead independent director of the Northern Trust Company and a member of the boards of directors of Sunoco and UChicago Argonne LLC, which is responsible for governance of the Argonne National Laboratory.  In both 2008 and 2009, Institutional Investor named Rowe the best electric utilities CEO in America. 

Civic and Charitable Commitment
Rowe is committed to a wide variety of civic and charitable activities, with a focus on education, science, history and diversity.  He serves as chairman of the Illinois Institute of Technology and president of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation.  He is the former chairman of the Commercial Club of Chicago and the Chicago History Museum.  He is a member of the boards of the Field Museum, the Illinois Holocaust Museum, and the Morgridge Institute for Research.  Along with his wife, Jeanne, and son, William, he established the Rowe Family Charitable Trust.  The Rowes and the Family Trust have founded the Rowe Professorship of Architecture and the Rowe Family Endowed Chair in Sustainable Energy at IIT, the Rowe Professorship of Byzantine History and the Rowe Family Professorship in Greek History at the University of Wisconsin, the Rowe Professorship in Virology at the Morgridge Institute and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, and the Curator of Evolutionary Biology at the Field Museum.  The Trust also co-founded the Rowe-Clark Math and Science Academy in Chicago’s West Humboldt Park neighborhood.  The Rowes serve as patrons of the Pope John Paul II parochial school on Chicago’s southwest side and the Rowe Elementary School.  Rowe is also chairman of the Renaissance Schools Fund, a nonprofit organization formed to fund charter schools in the City of Chicago, and serves on the board of the Northwestern Settlement House, an educational and social services organization serving Chicago’s West Side.

Education & Family
Rowe holds undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Wisconsin, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of the Coif.  He has also received that university’s Distinguished Alumni Award.  Rowe holds honorary doctorates from the University of Wisconsin, DePaul University, Illinois Institute of Technology, Drexel University, University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, Bryant College and Thomas College.

Rowe and his wife, Jeanne, reside in Chicago, as does their son, William, an associate with the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom.

Jon Wellinghoff was named Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)*, by President Barack Obama on March 19, 2009. A member of the Commission since 2006, the U.S. Senate reconfirmed him to a full, five-year FERC term in December 2007.

Chairman Wellinghoff is an energy law specialist with more than 34 years experience in the field. Before joining FERC, he was in private practice focusing exclusively on client matters related to renewable energy, energy efficiency and distributed generation. While in the private sector, Chairman Wellinghoff represented an array of clients from federal agencies, renewable developers, and large consumers of power to energy efficient product manufacturers and clean energy advocacy organizations.

Chairman Wellinghoff was the primary author of the Nevada Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) Act. In addition, he worked with clients to develop renewable portfolio standards in six other states. The Chairman is considered an expert on the state renewable portfolio process and has lectured extensively on the subject in numerous forums including the Vermont Law School. He has published articles on the electrification of our transportation system, using consumer loads to improve the efficiency of the electric system (known as Demand Response), and the integration of renewable energy into the electric grid.

In addition to being a member or Co-Chair of a number of industry organizations, he advises the Energy Foundation and the NRDC on China-U.S. energy policy matters and was designated by the Obama Administration to be a Principal in the U.S./China Strategic and Economic Dialogue. He recently returned from China where he participated in diplomatic discussions with China's energy leaders, including China's Energy Minister, Zhang Guobao.

Chairman Wellinghoff received his Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics from the University of Nevada, Reno, his Master's in Mathematics from Howard University and his JD from Antioch School of Law.

* The agency oversees wholesale electric transactions and interstate electric transmission and gas transportation in the United States.

Daniel Yergin is a highly respected authority on energy, international politics, and economics. Dr. Yergin is a Pulitzer Prize winner and recipient of the United States Energy Award for “lifelong achievements in energy and the promotion of international understanding.” He is both a world-recognized author and a business leader, as Chairman of IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA). He is also Executive Vice President of IHS, the parent company of CERA. Dr. Yergin received the Pulitzer Prize for his work The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power, which became a number one best seller and was made into an eight-hour PBS/BBC/NHK series seen by 20 million people in the United States. The book has been translated into 17 languages and was recently released in a new updated edition. 

Of Dr. Yergin’s subsequent book, Commanding Heights: The Battle for the World Economy, the Wall Street Journal said, “No one could ask for a better account of the world’s political and economic destiny since World War II.” It has been translated into 13 languages.

Dr. Yergin led the team that turned it into a six-hour PBS/BBC documentary—the major PBS television series on globalization. The series received three Emmy nominations, a CINE Golden Eagle award, and the New York Festivals Gold WorldMedal for best documentary.

His new book The Quest: Energy, Security and the Remaking of the Modern World will be out in September 2011. 

Dr. Yergin plays a leadership role in the global energy industry. He serves on the US Secretary of Energy Advisory Board and chaired the US Department of Energy’s Task Force on Strategic Energy Research and Development. He is a member of the Board of the United States Energy Association and a member of the US National Petroleum Council. He recently served as Vice Chair, Demand of the new National Petroleum Council study, Facing the Hard Truths about Energy, and currently is the Vice Chair, Gas Demand for the National Petroleum Council’s North America Natural Gas and Oil Resources Study. He also has become the only foreign member of the Russian Academy of Oil and Gas. He is one of the “Wise Men” of the International Gas Union.

He is CNBC’s Global Energy Expert.

Dr. Yergin was awarded the Medal of the President of the Republic of Italy for combining “an understanding of the dynamics of the market with a broad view of the forces of geopolitics as he seeks to point the way to the positive outcomes for the world community.”

Dr. Yergin has been named one of the 500 most influential people in the United States in the field of foreign policy by the World Affairs Councils of America. He is a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Center for Globalization at Yale University, a Trustee of the Brookings Institution, on the Board of the New America Foundation, and a Director of the US-Russia Business Council.

He serves on the Advisory Board of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Energy Initiative and on the Advisory Board of the Peterson Institute for International Economics. He is also a Member of the Singapore International Advisory Panel on Energy and a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for 21st Century at the US Chamber of Commerce. 

Dr. Yergin holds a BA from Yale University and a PhD from Cambridge University, where he was a Marshall Scholar.

Michael J. Ahearn currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of First Solar, Inc. (NASDAQ: FSLR). He co‐founded First Solar and served as its Chief Executive Officer during 2000 through 2009. During that period First Solar grew from a start‐up company with an advanced semiconductor technology for manufacturing low cost photovoltaic devices into a global leader in the solar power industry. In 2009, revenue and net income exceeded $2 billion and $600 million, respectively, and the company was named to the S&P 500.

Prior to First Solar, Mr. Ahearn served as a managing partner in True North Partners, an early stage investor in disruptive innovations (of which First Solar was one).

Mr. Ahearn currently serves on the board of directors of Endeavor, a non‐profit organization dedicated to transforming the economies of emerging markets by identifying and supporting high growth, innovative entrepreneurs. Khalid Al Buainain was appointed as Senior Vice President, Refining Marketing & International, of the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) on 1st September 2007.  He is responsible for Saudi Aramco crude and product sales & marketing, downstream operations - both domestic and international, in addition to Saudi Aramco’s worldwide subsidiaries and Vela International Marine Ltd.

Khalid Al Buainain joined the company in 1980 as an engineer with Northern Area Oil Operations and later held a variety of supervisory and managerial positions including Producing Operations, Gas Operations, Terminal and Oil Supply Planning.  In 1994, he moved to the Far East and led the Sales & Marketing Operations as General Manager of Saudi Petroleum Limited in Tokyo.  Upon his return to Saudi Arabia in 1997, he was appointed President & Managing Director of Saudi Shell Refinery Company (SASREF) in Jubail.  Khalid Al Buainain was also Chairman of Luberef in Jeddah.  In 2000, he was appointed to an executive position heading Saudi Aramco Affairs, and in 2001 he was named Vice President of Medical Services.  In 2003, Khalid Al Buainain was appointed Vice President, Refining, responsible for all Saudi Aramco refining operations, until February 2007 when he moved to the position of Vice President, Engineering Services.    

He has been a Board member of S-Oil Corporation since March 2008 and Chairman of the Board of Motiva Enterprises since January 2008.  He is currently a member of Saudi Aramco’s Management Committee.   

Khalid Al Buainain is a graduate of the University of Petroleum and Minerals in Applied Mechanical Engineering.  He attended the Executive Program at the Harvard Business School in 1999. 

Michael W. Allman is president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Southern California Gas Company. (SoCalGas). SoCalGas is the nation’s largest natural gas distribution utility serving 20.5 million consumers through 5.7 million gas meters in more than 500 communities.

Allman became president of SoCalGas in March 2010. Previously, Allman served as president and CEO of Sempra Generation, overseeing the operation of merchant power plants throughout North America. Allman has spearheaded the development of several groundbreaking renewable energy projects, including the country’s largest solar photovoltaic plant in Boulder City, Nevada.

From 1998 to 2008, Allman held leadership positions with Sempra Energy and its subsidiaries, including chief financial officer of Sempra Global, the umbrella organization for Sempra Energy’s businesses operating in competitive energy markets, president of Sempra Technology Ventures, vice president of corporate planning and development and vice president of audit services.

Allman joined the Alcar Group in 1987 in Chicago, and was later assigned to Johannesburg, London and Los Angeles throughout his tenure with the company.

Colin Andersen is Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Power Authority (OPA), which is responsible for ensuring a reliable, long-term supply of electricity for Ontario, focusing on promoting conservation, planning for the long term, and procuring generation resources. Joseph Belechak leads the Westinghouse global Nuclear Fuel organization, a $1.3 billion business unit that provides nuclear fuel fabrication, components and services to customers in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.

Prior to this role, which he assumed on July 1, 2008, Mr. Belechak was vice president, strategy, where he led the development of corporate strategy and business planning, and was responsible for coordination and alignment of planning with Toshiba Corporation, the principal owner of Westinghouse. In this role, he served as the chief strategic officer of the company.

Mr. Belechak previously served as President of Transformation Services, LLC, a strategic management consulting firm he founded in 2007. Prior to that he was Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Duquesne Light Company, a $1.5B energy company serving the Pittsburgh region, where he led the electric utility operations and the unregulated landfill gas, communications and energy services businesses.

Charles D. “Chuck” Davidson is Noble Energy, Inc.’s chairman, and chief executive officer. Noble Energy is a leading independent energy company which has been engaged in the exploration and production of oil and natural gas since 1932. Lewis “Lew” Hay, III is chairman and chief executive officer of NextEra Energy, Inc. Philippe Joubert is Executive Vice President, Alstom, and President, Alstom Power Sector. He is also the head of Alstom’s International Network and a member of the Executive Committee and was formerly the President of Alstom’s Power Systems Sector before all the activities related to power generation merged into a single entity. Previously he was President of Alstom’s Transmission & Distribution Sector and member of the Executive Committee of the Alstom group, in France, which he ran until this business was divested in January 2004. In over 20 years with the company he has held a number of posts, including several with GEC ALSTHOM in Brazil: as Country President; Managing Director of Transporte do Brasil Ltda.; General Delegate of GEC ALSTHOM in Brazil; President and Chief Executive Officer of GEC ALSTHOM Mecanica Pesada in Brazil; and Finance Director of GEC ALSTHOM Mecanica Pesada. Mr Jacek Krawiec is the President & Chief Executive Officer of PKN ORLEN, by revenues the largest refining and petrochemical group in Central Europe. He started his professional career in the consulting industry by joining the Polish team of Ernst&Young (his position: Consultant in the Management Consulting Department). Following his growing interest in financial issues he moved on to Price Waterhouse (Poland) where he worked first in audit and then in corporate finance departments (his last position: Manager in the Corporate Finance Department). In 1997 he left Poland to work for Nomura International Ltd London (Investment Banking) where he was responsible for projects on the Polish market. Since 1997 he was the Vice Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Impexmetal, a large listed company focused on the non-ferrous metal sector, and in June 1998 he was appointed the President of the Management Board and General Director of Impexmetal (1998-2002). In 2002 Mr Krawiec was appointed the President of the Management Board of Elektrim - at that time one of the largest Polish companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Since then Mr Krawiec worked in Sindicatum Ltd London (Managing Director), Action (President of the Management Board of the largest IT distributor on the Polish market) and PKN ORLEN (Vice President and since Sept. 2008 the President and CEO of the Management Board of the biggest company in the CEE).

Tom Mitchell is the President & Chief Executive Officer at Ontario Power Generation Inc. (OPG).

OPG is an Ontario-based electricity generation company whose principal business is the generation and sale of electricity in Ontario.  OPG’s focus is on the efficient production and sale of electricity from its generating assets, while operating in a safe, open and environmentally responsible manner.

Tom Mitchell has over 30 years of nuclear experience.  Before joining OPG, he held the position of Vice President of the Assistance Division of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) in Atlanta, Georgia.  During his career at INPO, he managed the radiological protection, plant analysis and engineering support departments.

Tom Mitchell also has considerable operations experience.  At Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, he served as Manager of Operations Support, Director of Site Engineering, and Site Vice President.  During the period of his involvement at Peach Bottom, the performance of the plant changed from being a regulatory shutdown to a recognized leader in safe and reliable operation.

Tom Mitchell’s involvement in the nuclear industry has extended outside the United States.  He served as the Deputy Director of the Atlanta Center for the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO), where he was involved in WANO activities in several parts of the world including CANDU plants at Bruce, Darlington, Pickering, Point Lepreau, Cernavoda and KNPP.

Ernest J. Moniz is the Cecil and Ida Green Professor of Physics and Engineering Systems, Director of the Energy Initiative, and Director of the Laboratory for Energy and the Environment at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he has served on the faculty since 1973.  Dr. Moniz served as Under Secretary of the Department of Energy from October 1997 until January 2001.  In that role, he had programmatic oversight responsibility for the offices of Science; Fossil Energy; Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy; Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology; Environmental Management; and Civilian Radioactive Waste Management. He also led a comprehensive review of the nuclear weapons stockpile stewardship program and served as the Secretary’s special negotiator for Russia initiatives, with a particular focus on the disposition of Russian nuclear weapons materials.  Dr. Moniz also served from 1995 to 1997 as Associate Director for Science in the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President, where his responsibilities spanned the physical, life, and social and behavioral sciences, science education, and university-government partnerships.  He is a member of President Obama’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) and of the DOE Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future.

At MIT, Dr. Moniz served as Head of the Department of Physics and as Director of the Bates Linear Accelerator Center, a DOE user facility. His principal research contributions have been in theoretical nuclear physics and in energy technology and policy studies, which is his current research focus.

Dr. Moniz received a Bachelor of Science degree summa cum laude in physics from Boston College, a doctorate in theoretical physics from Stanford University, and honorary doctorates from the University of Athens, the University of Erlangen-Nurenburg, and Michigan State University. Richard G. Newell is the Administrator of the US Energy Information Administration. He is on leave from his position as the Gendell Associate Professor of Energy and Environmental Economics at Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment. Previously Dr. Newell served as the Senior Economist for energy and environment on the President’s Council of Economic Advisers. He also spent many years as a Senior Fellow at Resources for the Future (RFF), an independent, nonpartisan environmental and resource economics research institution in Washington, DC. He has published widely on the economics of markets and policies for energy, the environment, and related technologies, particularly alternatives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving other energy and environmental goals. Dr. Newell was a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, a University Fellow of RFF, and on the boards of several periodicals and organizations including the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, the journal Energy Economics, the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, and the Automotive X-Prize. Stephen D. Pryor is President of ExxonMobil Chemical Company in Houston, Texas, and Vice President, Exxon Mobil Corporation. Kenneth Rogoff is Thomas D. Cabot Professor of Public Policy and Professor of Economics at Harvard University. Marvin Romanow is President and Chief Executive Officer of Nexen Inc.  He started his career as a drilling engineer for a major independent oil company.  His career has spanned many financial and operating roles, including professional and leadership roles in corporate finance, planning, business development, exploration and development, and reservoir engineering. 

Marvin has been a Director of the Canexus Income Fund since its inception.  Canexus is the third largest North American supplier of bleaching chemicals to the pulp and paper industry.  He is a member of the Board of Syncrude Canada, the country’s largest oilsands development.  Marvin has appeared as an expert witness in front of several federal and provincial energy regulatory boards and provided tax policy advice to Canada’s House of Common’s Finance Committee. 

In April of 2007 he was awarded Canada’s “CFO of the Year” award and in September of the same year he received the Petroleum Economist award for "Energy Executive of the Year 2006".

Marvin grew up in a small rural community in southeast Saskatchewan.  He received his Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, with great distinction, in 1977 and his MBA from the same University in 1980.  Marvin is also a graduate of Harvard’s Program for Management Development and in October of 2007 he completed INSEAD’s Advanced Management Programme.  He recently co-chaired a highly successful $30 million capital campaign for the University of Saskatchewan in the Calgary region.  Marvin is married with four children.  He enjoys golfing, travelling and spending time with his family.

The son of an ARCO international executive, Scott Sheffield attended high school in Tehran, Iran. After graduating from the University of Texas in 1975, he began his career as a reservoir engineer with Amoco Production Company.

In 1979, Scott became the fifth employee of Parker & Parsley Petroleum Company in Midland, Texas, where he was the sole staff engineer.  By 1991 he was Chairman and CEO of Parker & Parsley.

Under Scott's leadership, Parker & Parsley merged with MESA, Inc. in 1997 to form Pioneer Natural Resources Company.  Scott has held the position of Chief Executive Officer since the merger.  He was President of the Company from August 1997 to November 2004, and assumed the position of Chairman of the Board in August 1999.

Today, Pioneer is a large independent oil and gas exploration and production company with an enterprise value of more than $11 billion. Pioneer has entered into a multi-billion dollar transaction with Reliance Industries to develop one of the largest liquids-rich discoveries in North America during the next 15 years.

Scott serves on various industry-related and education oriented boards, including the National Petroleum Council and the Maguire Energy Institute of the SMU Cox School of Business. 

Paul Smith is Vice-Chairman of Tenaska Energy, Iin. (Tenaska) and Co-Founder, CEO and Senior Managing Director of Tenaska Capital Management, LLC (TCM), the manager of Tenaska Power Fund, L.P. (TPF I) and TPF II, L.P. As vice-chairman, Smith co-leads Tenaska, an independent energy company concentrating on reliable, cost-efficient and environmentally responsible power plant development, ownership and operations. Tenaska also provides energy risk management services and is involved in natural gas, biofuels and electric power marketing; gas exploration, production and transportation systems; and electric transmission development.

Mr. Smith serves as vice-chairman of the Tenaska Board of Stakeholders and is a member of the company’s five-person Executive Team. He also serves as a member of various management committees
associated with Tenaska business units.

Under Smith’s leadership as co-founder, CEO and Senior Managing Director of TCM, total assets under TCM’s management are approximately $5 billion, and include power generating plants and natural
gas pipelines, and gas storage, gathering and processing facilities.

As TCM’s CEO and Senior Managing Director, Mr. Smith, along with the company’s other senior managing directors, is responsible for the overall strategy, investment, operation and disposition of TPF I’s and TPF II’s investments. He is also a member of the Investment Committees for TPF I and TPF II and serves on the boards of directors for fund portfolio companies.

Mr. Smith has worked in the energy industry for more than 30 years, including 20 years with Tenaska or its affiliates. His broad experience includes mergers and acquisitions, corporate strategy, equity placements, business development, project development, power company management, natural gas production management, marketing company management, commercial contract negotiations and engineering.

Mr. Smith earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University and a master of business administration degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Chris Weston became President and CEO of Direct Energy effective July 1, 2009. Prior to this appointment, Chris held numerous leadership roles within Centrica plc, which owns Direct Energy and its operations in North America. Most recently, Chris was the Managing Director of British Gas Services, a position to which he was appointed in June 2005. Under his leadership, the business recorded impressive profit growth and improvements in customer satisfaction and employee engagement. Chris also served as Managing Director of British Gas Business between 2002 and 2005, and was Managing Director of Europe for Onetel from 2001 to 2002, which was acquired by Centrica.

Before joining Centrica, Chris worked for Cable and Wireless in both Australia and the UK. He was part of the team in the UK that was responsible for merging three cable operators and Mercury Communications into a single company. He also served in the Royal Horse Artillery of the British Army for seven years, leaving to attain his PhD in Quantitative Finance from Imperial College, London.

Chris is married to Lucy and they have four children. He enjoys the outdoors and is a keen fisherman and skier.

Sara Hussain Akbar is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Kuwait Energy Company (KEC), an independent upstream oil and gas exploration and production company with assets in the Middle East, Russia, and Asia. KEC was established in 2005. Prior to founding KEC Ms. Akbar was the New Business Development Manager for Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC), where she focused on identifying new upstream opportunities and managed its portfolio of assets. Earlier at KUFPEC she was a Corporate Planning Manager. Ms. Akbar began her career at the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), where she focused on strategy and development. She was also a member of KOC’s firefighting team during the first Gulf War and was awarded the United Nations Global 500 Award in 1993 for her efforts in controlling and assessing the damage of 41 oil well fires. She also earned a Distinguished Member Award from the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) in 2003. Ms. Akbar has served as a member of the board of directors of the Kuwait Gulf Oil Company, the Kuwait Drilling Company, and the SPE. She holds a BS from Kuwait University.

Khalil has been with Saudi Aramco for more than 25 years. During his career he served in several managerial and professional positions. He is currently the Interim President of the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC). He is overseeing the startup and development of KAPSARC research and human capital strategies and programs, facilities, and all supporting organizations.

He earned a BS degree from King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals in Civil Engineering and an MS degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. He is a graduate of the General Management Program (GMP) at the Harvard Business School.

Gabriel Alonso is both the Chief Executive Officer of Horizon Wind Energy and Chief Operating Officer for the North American platform of EDP Renewables (EDPR). He also serves on the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) Board of Directors.

Gabriel has been working in the wind energy industry for over 14 years in several countries in Europe, North America and North Africa. Gabriel most recently served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Horizon, responsible for overseeing development, engineering, construction, energy management, procurement and operations and maintenance. Before he became COO, he led Horizon’s Development Team as Chief Development Officer (CDO), increasing Horizon’s pipeline and prospects from 12 gigawatts (GW) to 20.8 GW in less than a year. Before his promotion to CDO, Gabriel joined Energias de Portugal, S.A. (EDP) in early 2007 as Managing Director for North America, where he led EDP’s entrance into the United States renewables arena.

Prior to Gabriel’s involvement with Horizon, he served in several executive roles with Gamesa in Europe and in the United States, where he was responsible for the establishment, organization, management and development of Gamesa’s wind energy projects in Southern Europe, through its affiliates in Portugal, France, Italy and Greece. In addition, while at Gamesa, he led the acquisition of Minnesota-based wind energy developer Navitas Energy Inc., named CEO and concurrently appointed Executive Director of Gamesa Energy U.S.A., leading Gamesa’s wind development in the U.S.

Gabriel holds a law degree and a Master of Science degree in economics, each from the University of Deusto in Spain, and has completed the Advanced Management Program at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business - Chicago Executive Institute.

Jack Bailey was named to his present position as Vice President, Nuclear Generation Development in June 2005.  He has responsibility for directing TVA activities related to the development of new nuclear generation projects.  His responsibilities include developing new nuclear projects, major licensing or construction projects at existing nuclear operating plants, and projects between TVA and the Department of Energy.  He has more than 29 years of experience in the nuclear industry.

Bailey joined TVA in February 1997 as Vice President of Engineering and Technical Services in TVA Nuclear.  From 2002-2005 he was Senior Vice President of Power Resources and Operations Planning.

From 1989 to 1997, Bailey worked at Arizona Public Service Company’s Palo Verde Nuclear Station.  His positions there included Vice President of Nuclear Support, Vice President of Nuclear Engineering and Projects, Director of Engineering Site Technical Support, Director of Nuclear Engineering, and Assistant Plant Manager.  From 1982 to 1989, he was at Virginia Power’s Surry Nuclear Station with his last position being the Superintendent of Operations.

Bailey was an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1976 to 1982.  He earned a B.S. degree from the University of Texas at El Paso.

Bruce Bilger is a Managing Director and Chairman & Head of Global Energy with Lazard Freres. He also serves as Cohead of the Southwest Investment Banking Region. Prior to joining Lazard in January 2008 Mr. Bilger was a partner at the law firm of Vinson & Elkins, where he was Head of its Energy Practice Group and Cohead of its attorney corporate and transactional practice. During his 30-year legal career with Vinson & Elkins, Mr. Bilger’s practice consisted primarily of domestic and international business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, international infrastructure development projects, project finance, and other corporate transactions, particularly in the energy industry. Mr. Bilger has handled some of the most notable and challenging energy industry transactions in recent years, including numerous $1 billion–plus transactions. In 2007 he received the most number of nominations globally in Euromoney’s Guide to the World’s Leading Energy and Natural Resource Lawyers. Mr. Bilger holds a BA from Dartmouth College and MBA and JD degrees from the University of Virginia.

Terry Boston is President and Chief Executive Officer of PJM Interconnection, which administers one of the largest US energy markets and operates North America’s largest electricity grid. Mr. Boston is Vice Chair of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation’s (NERC) Transmission Forum and has served for six years on the NERC Engineering Committee and Transmission Task Force and three years on the NERC Board/Stakeholders Committee. He also served three years as Chairman of the Southeastern Electric Reliability Council Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Mr. Boston was one of eight industry experts selected to direct the NERC investigation of the August 2003 Northeast/Midwest blackout. He is Vice President of the International Council on Large Electric Systems and Vice President of the Consortium for Electric Reliability Technology Solutions. Prior to joining PJM, Mr. Boston was the Executive Vice President of the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA’s) Power System Operations, and he held several senior leadership positions with TVA. Mr. Boston was chosen Tennessee Technological University’s Engineer of Distinction in 1997 and named to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga College of Engineering Board in 1999. He holds a BS from Tennessee Technological University and an MS from the University of Tennessee.

Since June 2007 Brad has been the Chief Economist at Jadwa investment Company in Riyadh. He is also Managing Director of Proprietary Investments, overseeing investment of the bank?s own capital, and he is the Vice Chairman of the Management Committee. Brad publishes regularly on issues related to the Saudi and global economies and the world oil market. He appears frequently in the domestic and international television and print media and is a regular public speaker. For nine years prior to joining Jadwa, Brad was the Chief Economist at Samba Financial Group, formerly the Citigroup affiliate Saudi American Bank, in Riyadh. At Samba he was also head of cross-border risk management for the bank, which involved managing the bank?s exposures outside Saudi Arabia. Before joining Samba, Brad spent an 18-year career as diplomat, economist, and manager with the U.S. Department of State. During the last three years of his diplomatic career he was in Riyadh as the American Embassy?s First Secretary responsible for financial affairs, where he analyzed the Saudi economy for the U.S. Government and conducted financial aspects of US-Saudi relations, such as serving on the US negotiating team for Saudi accession to the World Trade Organization. Brad has his BA and MA magna cum laude from the University of Utah, and is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charterholder.

Tracy Bridge joined CenterPoint Energy in 1986, and is Division Senior Vice President Support Operations.  His current responsibilities include Smart Grid Deployment (advanced metering systems and intelligent grid), Customer Service, Operations Technology, Business Process Transformation, Land and Field Services, and Fleet and Shops Services.

He started with the company as a regulatory attorney for CenterPoint Energy’s Minnegasco operations and later served 12 years as Director of Regulatory Services and seven years as Director of Government and Public Relations.  In 2007, he was named Division Vice President, Regional Gas Operations (Minnesota).  In 2008, he was named Division Senior Vice President, Support Operations in Houston, Texas, responsible for:  Rates and Regulatory, Customer Service, Electric Market Operations, Land and Field Services, and Fleet and Shops Services.

Education and Accreditation:  Bridge earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Graceland College in 1980, and a Juris Doctorate from Drake University Law School in 1983.   He has completed advanced business and utility certificate courses at the University of Michigan (1997), the University of Idaho (2006) and Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University (2007).

Affiliations and Honors:  Current positions:  President of the Graceland University Yellowjacket Club, and a member of the American Gas Association (AGA) and Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Customer Service Committees.  He is a past member of the Board of Directors of:  the Minnesota Business Partnership, the Greater Metropolitan Housing Corporation; the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery; and the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce.  Bridge is past chair of the AGA’s Rates and Strategic Issues Committee where he was awarded AGA’s Outstanding Service Award. 

Personal:  He is married to Chris Helene Bridge, an author and artist, and they have two sons, Tyler and Andrew.

Rob Bryngelson is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Excelerate Energy, and formerly served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer with responsibility and oversight for the day to day operations of the business.  As one of the founders of Excelerate Energy, Rob initially held the position of Vice President of Development and Downstream Services managing the development, permitting, and construction of Excelerate’s LNG importation projects and related downstream activities.

Prior to Excelerate, Rob worked as Managing Director in El Paso Corporation’s Global LNG group where he was responsible for LNG infrastructure development, supply procurement, and downstream marketing for North America. This included oversight of the development of several land-based LNG terminals in Altamira (Mexico), Grand Bahama Island, and Baja California.  In addition, Rob lead the team that developed the Gulf of Mexico Energy Bridge deepwater LNG port project, and subsequently negotiated agreements to secure commercial control of the project following his departure from El Paso and the subsequent formation of Excelerate.

Previous industry experience consisted of leading complex projects involving power and gas origination, power plant development, gas marketing and joint venture creation and management.

Rob earned a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance and a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1995 and 1993 respectively from the University of Texas at Austin, in addition to a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1991.

Guy Buckley is group vice president of corporate development for Spectra Energy, responsible for leading strategic development, corporate business development and mergers and acquisitions.

Buckley joined the company in 1989, assuming positions in engineering, operations and marketing for Algonquin Gas Transmission and Texas Eastern Transmission under Spectra Energy’s predecessor company, Panhandle Eastern.

Prior to his current position, Buckley served as group vice president of southeast transportation and storage. He was responsible for East Tennessee Natural Gas and its associated storage facilities, plus the company’s 50 percent ownership position in Gulfstream Natural Gas System.

His career with Spectra Energy has also included oversight of several development projects, and the role of vice president of business development.

Prior to joining the company, Buckley served as product manager for Alzeta Corporation in San Jose, Calif., and as a mechanical engineer with the Naval Underwater System Center in Newport, R.I.

Buckley received a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from McGill University in Montreal, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Boston University.

A native of Woonsocket, R.I., Buckley and his wife, Mary, have a daughter and three sons.

Denis Cochet was educated in France, graduating from ENSAE, the French National Business School, in statistics and economy in 1976.

After two years in the French Navy in submarines, he started his civil career with ALSTOM in 1978.

During his career in ALSTOM he held various position successively as business controller, HR Director, Finance Director and finally Sales and Marketing in 1994 in steam turbines.

In 1999 he was promoted as Sales and Marketing VP for the ALSTOM Industrial Segment (€1.5b) after the take-over of ABB by ALSTOM. In 2003 he was part of the core team in charge of the disposal of this activity to Siemens following the refinancing of ALSTOM.

In 2004 he was appointed as VP Sales for the ALSTOM Power Sectors and in April 2007 he was promoted Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing in charge of the Sales & Marketing organisation of the Power Sector.

Denis Cochet is 58 years old and married with three children.

Steve Crowell is the CEO & President of Pluspetrol Resources Corporation. He earned a
BSEE from the University of Texas and an MBA from the University of Nebraska.

After completing three years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, Steve began his career in oil and gas exploration and production with Mobil Oil Corporation.  From there he moved into various general management and senior executive positions with Diamond Shamrock Corporation (later Maxus).

For the past fifteen years, Steve has headed Pluspetrol from a base in Buenos Aires Argentina.  During that time, Pluspetrol has evolved from a small privately-held company focused on Argentina into a significant player in South American energy.  Today Pluspetrol is the leading producer of both oil and gas in Perú, and it continues to be one of the top producers of both oil and gas in Argentina. The company also has exploration and production activities in Bolivia, Venezuela, Colombia, Chile and Angola.

After several positions within Gaz de France, including Chief Operating Officer and member of the Executive Committee, Jean-Marie DAUGER is now Executive Vice President within GDF SUEZ and member of the Executive Committee.
He also has the responsibility for Global Gas & LNG Business Line.

Dave Dunning serves as group president of Power for Fluor Corporation, responsible for the company’s activities in the global nuclear generation, renewables, plant betterment and fossil fueled industries. 

Dunning most recently served as senior vice president of sales, marketing and strategic planning for Fluor’s global Power business. He has more than 35 years of direct Power industry experience including 32 years of service with Fluor.

Previous to that, Dunning served in executive sales and marketing capacities, including as senior vice president for sales, marketing and strategic planning for the Duke/Fluor Daniel partnership; sales director for Fluor’s Operations & Maintenance division; sales director for the Northeast region, and sales manager for Fluor’s East Coast sales. He was a sales coordinator for Fluor’s Power group in 1984.

Dunning served his first 10 years in the nuclear power industry including positions in engineering, field supervision, quality inspection and quality assurance. Early in his career, Dunning worked for a contractor at the Susquehanna Nuclear Power Plant in Pennsylvania as a steel designer and coatings superintendent.  He then began with Fluor (then Daniel Construction Company) in a seven-year stint at the Callaway Nuclear Power Plant in Fulton, Mo.

Active in a variety of organizations, Dunning previously served as the chairman for Fluor’s Corporate Sales Board, and is a member of the Foundation Board for East Stroudsburg University and is on the Board of Directors for Powerspan.

He has a B.S. from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania and has completed executive education training programs at Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. 

Dr. Charles K.  Ebinger is the Director of the Energy Security Initiative at Brookings, a program coordinating the work of about 30 scholars specializing in energy and environmental policy issues. Previously he was a Senior Advisor at the International Resources Group where he advised over 50 governments on various aspects of their energy policies, specializing on institutional and economic restructuring of their utility sectors. Dr. Ebinger has special expertise in South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa but has also worked in the Far East, Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Latin America. Dr. Ebinger is an Adjunct Professor at the Johns Hopkins University’s Nitze School of Advanced International Studies. He has 30 years experience advising the highest levels of governments on a variety of USAID, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development-funded projects addressing the restructuring of electricity, natural gas and petroleum state-owned companies; the creation of regulatory regimes; energy pricing reforms; institutional strengthening of energy ministries and state-owned utilities, and enactment of energy efficiency programs. Dr. Ebinger has also been involved in most of the domestic energy and environmental policy debates since 1975, having testified before Congress and other federal and state administrative agencies. In 1975, as a Foreign Affairs Officer in the Federal Energy Administration, Dr. Ebinger helped establish the International Energy Agency and its oil-sharing mechanism.  

From 1976 to 1979, Dr. Ebinger served as Vice President of Conant and Associates, an international oil, gas, and electricity political risk consulting company advising European, Japanese and Middle Eastern oil, natural gas and electric utility companies. In 1979, he became the Founding Director of CSIS’s Energy and Strategic Resources Program and served as Director until 1987. During this time, Dr. Ebinger was involved in all the policy debates surrounding the restructuring of the US electricity and natural gas industries, the Soviet Gas Pipeline dispute, development of alcohol and other biomass fuels, the development of CNG as an alternative transportation fuel, lifting the ban on the export of Alaskan oil, etc. From 1987-1988, he was a Senior Consultant at Putnam, Hayes & Bartlett specializing on the restructuring of US and Great Britain’s electricity and natural gas markets.  From 1988-1999, he served as Executive Vice President at the International Resources Group advising governments around the world  on restructuring their state-owned energy sectors and setting  up regulatory regimes. 

In 1999, he joined Stone & Webster Management Consultants as the Director of the International Energy Practice where he was deeply involved on utility projects in Venezuela, Indonesia, the Gambia, and Nigeria. From 2000-2004 he held several positions at Nexant (a subsidiary of Bechtel Corporation), including Vice President and Director of International Utility Services, Senior Vice President for Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa, and Senior Vice President for Global Privatization/Restructuring/Regulation. During this time, Dr. Ebinger’s major engagements were in Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Jordan, Nigeria, Egypt, Pakistan, Nepal, and India. Before joining Brookings in June 2008, Dr. Ebinger returned to IRG (2004-2008) to lead projects helping to strengthen and restructure the Afghan and Liberian energy sectors. Dr. Ebinger has served on two presidential commissions on energy policy   He is the author of five books and scores of articles on a host of international energy and foreign policy issues. He is currently working on a book Energy Security in South Asia. He serves on the board of India’s The Energy Research Institute (TERI)- North America and has served on the boards of oil and gas companies and several non-profits including the Chemical and Biological Arms Control Institute where he was Chairman. He received his B.A. from Williams College and his Masters and Ph.D. degrees from the Fletcher School of International Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

Don Furman is the Senior Vice President of External Affairs for Iberdrola Renewables, Inc., the second largest wind power operator in the U.S. He oversees transmission, communications and marketing, and regulation and policy in the U.S.

Don was previously with PacifiCorp, most recently as Senior Vice President of Regulation and External Affairs. At various times, he also held the roles of Vice President of Domestic Mergers and Acquisitions, and Vice President of Transmission. He led PacifiCorp’s efforts to form an RTO in the Pacific Northwest.  He was also responsible for the start up of PacifiCorp Power Marketing in the mid-90s, and served briefly as its President.

Prior to joining PacifiCorp, Don was Senior Vice President of Operations for Citizens Lehman Power LP, the nation’s first power marketing company.  Don also had an earlier career practicing law.  He was a shareholder in the firm of Babst Calland Clements & Zomnir in Pittsburgh, where he represented project developers and industrial consumers before FERC and various state commissions.  He also held positions at Stoel Rives in Portland, Oregon, and as Assistant General Counsel of Portland General Electric, also in Portland. Don received a BA in economics from Northwestern University in 1979, and a J.D. from Lewis and Clark Law School in 1982.

Peter Gaw is currently the Global Head of Standard Chartered Bank’s Oil & Gas coverage team within the Strategic Client Coverage Group. He is responsible for delivering the full range of Standard Chartered products to its global clients including advisory, M&A and structural finance. Mr. Gaw has more than 25 years of experience in energy finance and energy investment banking.

Prior to joining Standard Chartered, Mr. Gaw was the President of CIT Energy where he was responsible for building a broad-based energy platform and delivering financing and advisory products to higher growth, entrepreneurial companies throughout the energy sector.

Prior to CIT, Mr. Gaw was an Executive Vice President at ABN AMRO, where he was the Head of Energy & Resources Americas and a member of the Global Management Team. In this capacity, he managed a team of 20 bankers who provided a wide variety of financial and advisory services to clients across the energy sector. Prior to ABN AMRO, Gaw held energy positions within CIBC and Chemical Bank.

Mr. Gaw is a member of the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers, an associate member of the American Gas Association, an associate member of the Houston Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Brazil-Texas Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Gaw holds a Master’s in International Business from Georgetown university and a BS in International Economics from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.

Britta K. Gross is Director, Global Energy Systems and Infrastructure Commercialization within General Motors (GM) Research and Development and Strategic Planning. She is responsible for assessing energy system alternatives, identifying energy strategies and business opportunities, and steering the commercialization efforts for electrical and hydrogen infrastructures required to support the deployment of GM’s rapidly developing electric propulsion vehicle technologies, based on fuel cells and plug-in batteries. She has an extensive and diverse background in automotive and aerospace industries. Previously Ms. Gross joined GM’s Advanced Vehicle Technology programs to work on the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle program. In 1995 she led a joint aerospace/automotive project that involved Hughes, GM, and Opel vehicle design engineers for Opel in Russelsheim, Germany. She began her career in 1983 with Hughes Space & Communications in Los Angeles, leading Mission Design and Systems Engineering teams in developing satellite programs. Ms. Gross serves on the Board of Directors of the National Hydrogen Association. She holds a degree in electrical engineering from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and studied language arts at the University of Wurzburg in Germany.

Currently working as E&P Executive Manager at Petrobras, in Rio de Janeiro, since 2003. Managed all the E&P Business Units of Petrobras at North and Northeast of Brazil until April 2008 when she was appointed E&P Executive Manager for Production Engeneering.
She has been with Petrobras for over 25 years,  working primarily on well testing (analysis and execution) and after on reservoir engineering. 
Obtained a degree in Civil Engineering from the UFJF, the MS in Civil Engineering from UFRJ and the PhDegree from State University of Campinas at 1998.
She has finished her MBA course from COPPEAD in 2008

Jim Hempstead is currently a Senior Vice President in the Global Infrastructure Finance Group. Jim joined Moody’s in December 2002. He covers a portfolio of U.S.-based electric and natural gas utility companies and not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperatives.

Prior to joining Moody’s, Jim spent approximately four years with Merrill Lynch & Co., working in the Global Energy & Power Group, and provided financial and advisory services to electric, natural gas distribution, interstate pipeline, energy merchant, water and energy technology companies. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Jim spent approximately four years with Salomon Smith Barney Corporate Finance, working in their Global Energy & Power Group.

Jim graduated with a B.S.B.A. from Villanova University and an M.B.A. from Fordham University.

Melanie A. Kenderdine, Executive Director, Energy Initiative at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Ms. Kenderdine is a member of a three-person leadership team of the Initiative, responsible for its implementation and the development of long-range strategies for its activities, management, and growth. Prior to joining MIT she was Vice President of the Gas Technology Institute for Washington operations, where she was involved in major initiatives to increase domestic natural gas supply, enhance energy efficiency and security, and promote the research needs of the natural gas industry. From 1993 to 2001 Ms. Kenderdine served in several key posts at the US Department of Energy, including director of the Office of Policy and senior advisor to the secretary. Ms. Kenderdine has testified before Congress on many occasions, has served on numerous energy task forces, and is a frequent speaker at international energy conferences, including the World Petroleum Congress, the International Energy Agency’s International Energy Experts Conference in Abu Dhabi, and the Turkish War College in Istanbul.

After studying law and holding different positions as adviser and assistant head of
division at federal level, Johannes Kindler headed the office of the Minister of State to
the Federal Chancellor between 1987 and 1991.

From 1991 to 1995 he was head of division for industrial and energy policy, the
Treuhand privatisation agency, small and medium sized enterprises and regional
economic policy at the Federal Chancellery.

Between 1995 and 2007 he was head there of the department for industrial, energy
and telecommunications policy, innovation, foreign trade and financial markets. In
this position, he worked as economy adviser to Chancellors Helmut Kohl, Gerhard
Schröder and Angela Merkel.

Since February 2007 Johannes Kindler has been Vice-Chairman of the Federal
Network Agency for Electricity, Gas, Telecommunications, Post and Railway.
He was elected Vice-Chairman of the European Regulators' Group for electricity and
gas (ERGEG) in the European Union in November 2007.

Nikolay Kolesnikov is Executive Vice President/Chief Strategy and Financial Officer of Sovcomflot (www.scf-group.ru). He joined Sovcomflot in June 2005. Previously Mr. Kolesnikov worked for 12 years as an investment banker with Morgan Grenfell/Deutsche Bank in Moscow and JP Morgan and EBRD in London. He began his professional career in shipping with Sovfracht, a Moscow-based predecessor company of Sovcomflot in 1985. Mr. Kolesnikov graduated from the Moscow Institute of Finance and holds an MBA degree from Instituto de Empresa Business School in Madrid.

Dmitry Kolobov joined Sibur LLC in December 2010, with mandate to develop and grow hydrocarbons feedstock business of the company, across several key areas: a) growth of available resource base (APG, condensate, heavy natural gas) via joint ventures and long-term supply contracts with oil&gas producers in traditional regions (Western Siberia), b) development of entry positions (as part of consortia and SPVs) in greenfield areas of hydrocarbons production and processing (Eastern Siberia, Far East, Siberian Arctic (on-shore and off-shore), c) development of commercial and regulatory solutions facilitating Sibur’s sales channels and improving commercial potential of end products (LPG), and d) identification and commercialization of  new technologies and equipment in gas transport, processing and distribution, as well as operational and commercial options in unconventional hydrocarbons.

Mr. Kolobov graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations in 1994, and then worked in Halliburton Oil Field Services (Russia and CIS). From 1996 to 2000, he worked as Marketing Director of New Sport sports marketing agency (Russia). In 2002, he received an MBA from London Business School. In 2002-2004 Mr.Kolobov worked at CenterInvest Group (Russia) serving clients in Russian oil upstream sector. In 2004-2010 Mr.Kolobov worked at McKinsey & Company (Russia, EU) specializing on oil&gas (upstream and downstream), energy, transport and mining projects. 

Mr. La Noce is Executive Director of Mubadala Energy and CEO of Mubadala Oil & Gas. His primary responsibilities are to oversee Mubadala’s operational and business development activities in the oil and gas, petroleum services and renewable energy sectors.

Mr. La Noce is the Chairman of MDC Oil & Gas Holdings, and a Board member of Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), GLOBALFOUNDRIES, Emirates Aluminium (EMAL), Pearl Energy, Spyker Cars NV and Mubadala Petroleum Services Company.

Before joining Mubadala, Mr La Noce held various commercial and managerial positions of increasing responsibility with Atlantic Richfield (ARCO) and ENRON International while on various international job assignments in Milan, London, Dallas and the United Arab Emirates.

He holds a degree in Industrial Electronics from ‘A. Beltrami’ in Italy. He also attended the College of Petroleum Studies in Oxford, UK.

Thomas K. Lane is a Partner of Energy Capital Partners, a private equity firm formed in 2005 to focus on making energy infrastructure investments in North American. The firm has made investments in power generation, solar energy, midstream gas, transmission, and other energy-related assets. In addition to other responsibilities, Mr. Lane heads the firm’s midstream gas efforts and is a member of the board of Cardinal Gas Storage, headquartered in Houston, Texas, and Summit Midstream, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to the formation of Energy Capital Mr. Lane was a Managing Director in the Energy and Power investment banking group of Goldman Sachs. Mr. Lane had senior-level coverage responsibility for electric and gas utilities, independent power companies, and merchant energy companies throughout the United States. Mr. Lane has extensive experience in financing and merger related transactions, and he helped to source a number of Goldman Sachs’ principal investments within the energy sector. Mr. Lane serves on several nonprofit boards, including as Chairman of the Advisory Board of Street2Street and as President of the Board of Bergen County Society. Mr. Lane holds a BA from Wheaton College and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

He started his Petroleum Refining and petrochemical career from 1982. He had been the President of Tianjin Petrochemical Company, Sinopec from 2001 to 2006, and the President of Tianjin United Chemical Company Limited from 1998 to 2001 and President of Cangzhou Refinery, SINOPEC.

Now he is also the editor in chief of “Petroleum & Petrochemical Today” and “China Petroleum and Petrochemical Industry Economics Research Annual Report” and “Petrochemical Market Annual Report”

He graduated from Hebei University of Technology in 1982, majoring Petroleum Refining., and has an MBA Degree from the Dalian University of Technology in 1996.

Michael Lowe is the Customer Services Executive for Salt River Project, the 3rd largest public power agency in the nation, which serves 950,000 electric customers in metropolitan Phoenix, Arizona.  In his role as troubleshooter and change agent, he leads a staff of 840 with an annual budget in excess of $190 million.  He directs major customer programs and initiatives that drive quality and high customer satisfaction. His focus on governance and streamlined business processes drives effective use of technology and efficient use of corporate resources. As a result, SRP is able to get competitive products and services to the market more rapidly and retain valuable intellectual property.  His operational responsibilities include new product development, sales, call centers, regional customer service offices, metering, meter reading, billing, and collections. 

Mr. Lowe is instrumental in shaping service delivery at SRP as a means to increase competitive advantage.  He has delivered a host of services leading to enhanced customer satisfaction and loyalty.  These include the largest program for prepaid electric service in North America; a territory-wide network of utility-owned automated payment kiosks processing 3.5 million payments per year; and one of the largest time-of-use pricing programs in the United States. SRP has deployed over 615,000 smart meters and has plans for territory-side roll-out over the next 3 years.  Customers served by smart meters now are able to view their prior day’s usage on the internet and to receive weekly bill estimates via text message. In 2008, SRP received the NERO Award for their M-Power initiatives, the EUCI Award for smart meters, and the Utility Planning Network’s Global Award for “Best Use of Smart Metering as a Customer Care Tool”, and was a finalist in the Platts Global Energy Award for Commercial Technology of the Year based on its smart metering and prepayment programs.  In 2009, SRP received the nDEED Service Innovation Award by the American Public Power Association for its prepayment program. SRP’s call centers have been certified by JD Power for the past 5 consecutive years, and SRP has earned 15 JD Power Awards for customer satisfaction. 

Mr. Lowe and his team continue to develop governance methodologies and business processes that improve their business and CRM system. This is accomplished through cross-functional management of budgets, resources, and training while providing seamless customer support on a multi-million dollar system. During the flash cutover to a new CRM in May of 2004, Mr. Lowe led the development of a training program for 1,400 employees, internal and external communications plans, and a benchmark process and management system to ascertain the normalcy of all operations following the new system implementation. In addition, his team created an industry-leading business resumption process to provide operational continuity in the event of extended downtime of the new customer system. 

Mr. Lowe’s leadership acumen is the result of thirty years of experience in finance, information systems, and customer services. He has the ability to create a shared-vision between cross-functional teams and to leverage the business and technical portfolios to drive competitive products and services.  

Mr. Lowe is a member of the Community Board of Catholic Healthcare West East Valley Hospitals and a past chairman.  He served as a past member of the board for Catholic Charities Social Services of the Diocese of Phoenix and past treasurer of the Phoenix Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute.  He received his MBA from Arizona State University.  He also holds a BA in economics, summa cum laude, from California State University, Stanislaus.  A second-generation native of Arizona, Mr. Lowe resides with his wife, Sandy, and his two sons in Tempe, Arizona.

Joan MacNaughton has been an influential figure in the energy policy debate in a variety of roles. She joined Alstom Power in 2007 as Senior Vice President, Power and Environmental Policies.

An Honorary Fellow and President Elect of the Energy Institute, Joan is also Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies and, among other appointments, a member of the Board of Governors, Argonne Laboratory at the University of Chicago, and of the CCSA and IETA. She is a Companion of the Order of the Bath.

Joan leads Alstom’s policy department and spearheads the company’s clean power advocacy: to advance clean, sustainable energy and reduce power generation CO2 emissions.

Prior to joining Alstom, Joan played a key role in shaping UK energy policy. As Director General of Energy she led a major change programme and made a significant contribution to international energy policy, including overseeing the energy agenda during the UK Presidency of the EU and leading the work on the energy part of the climate change proposals agreed at the G8 Gleneagles Summit.  From 2004 to 2006, she was elected Chair of the Governing Board of the International Energy Agency, helping redefine the IEA’s strategy and leading the emergency response to the supply disruption caused by Hurricane Katrina.

Mr Maguire is a Partner at Perella Weinberg Partners and is based in London.

Mr Maguire has been active in the global energy markets since 1986.  Most recently he was at Basin Capital Partners, an energy focused private equity firm of which he was a founding partner and where he will continue to serve on the Advisory Board. 

Prior to his involvement with Basin Capital, Mr Maguire was, for over twenty years, an investment banker in Morgan Stanley’s energy group.  From 2003 until the time of his departure in April 2007, Mr Maguire was involved in numerous significant transactions in the energy space, including mergers such as BP/Amoco, Elf/Total and Statoil/Norsk Hydro, privatisations such as Statoil, Rosenft, Gazprom and Sinopec, acquisitions such as BP/Arco and Shell/Enterprise and joint ventures such as TNK-BP and LUKArco.  In addition, he was responsible for establishing and maintaining Morgan Stanley’s relationships with senior executives from leading energy companies in Europe, Russia, the Middle East, China and South East Asia.  Prior to joining Morgan Stanley Mr Maguire was a lawyer with White & Case in New York and London.  

Mr Maguire is a member of the Board of Directors of Integra Group, the largest integrated oil field services and oil field equipment manufacturer in Russia.  He holds an AB from Princeton University (1977), an MA from Oxford University (1980) and a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law (1983).

Heiner Markhoff is president and chief executive officer of GE Water & Process Technologies.  The company brings together experienced professionals and advanced technologies to solve the world’s most complex challenges related to water availability and quality, increased productivity and cost reduction, and environmental regulations.A 15-year GE veteran with extensive international business experience, Heiner has been in his new position since October 2008. 

Heiner began his career as an associate with Booz Allen & Hamilton, a strategy and technology consulting firm. He joined GE’s Corporate Business Development Team in Fairfield, CT in 1994, and in 1995 he was appointed marketing manager for GE Silicones Europe, based in Bergen op Zoom, The Netherlands. In this role he was responsible for product management, marketing and business development activities, which led to the formation of GE Bayer Silicones in July 1998.  Heiner was named commercial director of the new business.

In 2000 he was promoted to general manager-automotive for GE Plastics Americas, based in Detroit, Michigan, responsible for GE Plastics’ Automotive Business in North America. From 2002 to 2006 Heiner was CEO of GE Bayer Silicones, a GE-led joint venture between GE Silicones and Bayer of Germany headquartered in Leverkusen, Germany, with 1100 employees and operations across Europe, Middle East, Africa and India.

In 2006 he was named president of GE Plastics Europe. In this role, Heiner had responsibility for all GE Plastics business in Europe, Middle East and Africa, with a total of about 3000 employees.

Heiner graduated form the University of Cologne, Germany with degrees in economics and business administration.

Marcio Rocha Mello. Bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Brasília, 1976, and PhD in Molecular Geochemistry applied to Petroleum Exploration from the University of Bristol, England, 1989. Mello had a 24-year career at Petrobras, where he developed highly specialized studies about petroleum systems for most of the sedimentary basins in Brazil, Africa and Latin America. At Petrobras he held several managerial and technical positions such as Head of the Organic Geochemistry Section of Petrobras Research Center (1982-1995) and Head of the Geochemistry Center of Excellence (1996-1999). He founded and headed the first Petrobras Center of Excellence (CEGEQ), considered to be one of the best laboratories of petroleum geochemistry worldwide. In 2000, he left Petrobras and founded Analytical Solutions (AS) and Petroleum and Environment Geosciences (PEG) in Rio de Janeiro, both considered to be the leading G&G service and laboratory companies with more than 500 professionals. In 2004, both companies were sold. Also in 2004, he founded High Resolution Technology & Petroleum Ltda. The company became leader in G&G consulting and laboratory services in the southern hemisphere. Mello has published over 300 papers, including books on geology and geochemistry related to petroleum exploration around the world. In 1998, he received the Distinguished AAPG Achievement Award and, in 2000, the Robert H. Dott Sr. Memorial Award for the publication of Petroleum System of South Atlantic Margins, considered by AAGP as the best publication of that year. Mello is the former president of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), Latin America Section, and founder and current president of the Brazilian Association of Petroleum Geologists (ABGP). At HRT O&G he holds the functions of Chief Executive Officer, and at HRT he is the Chief Executive Officer, Investor Relations Officer, and a member of the board.

David Mohler is senior vice president and chief technology officer for Duke Energy. He is responsible for the development and application of technologies in support of Duke Energy’s strategic objectives. He was named to his current position in October 2006.

Previously, Mohler served as vice president of strategic planning for Duke Energy. Prior to the merger between Duke Energy and Cinergy, he served in the same role for Cinergy. Mohler has operational experience in both nuclear and fossil power generation, as well as experience in corporate marketing, human resources and business development.

He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Indiana University, a bachelor of science degree from the University of the State of New York at Albany, a master of arts degree from Xavier University of Cincinnati, and a master of science degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He also completed the Columbia University Marketing Management Program and Penn State University Executive Development Program.

Mohler is a member of the advisory boards of GridPoint Inc. and Verizon. He serves on the Electric Power Research Institute’s Research Advisory Committee and the board of the Charlotte Research Institute at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Mohler is also a strategic advisor to the Joint U.S.-China Collaboration on Clean Energy.

Mr. Noe has been a contributor to the Washington Times, writing on oil and gas issues.
Previously, he served as Corporate Counsel for BJ Services Company, a worldwide oilfield services provider.  Mr. Noe also served as Corporate Counsel for Single Buoy Moorings, a Monaco-based company that designs, owns and operates floating production systems (FPSOs and FSOs). Early in his career, Mr. Noe was in private practice with the New Orleans law firm of King, LeBlanc & Bland, where he focused on corporate and commercial issues for oil and gas companies and shipyards.  During his private practice, Mr. Noe represented shipyards in large naval construction disputes before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  He also represented vessel and rig owners in large construction disputes and arbitrations in Europe and the Far East.
Mr. Noe holds a Bachelor of Arts with honors from the University of Alabama and a Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University.  He is licensed to practice law in Louisiana and Texas.  Mr. Noe is Vice Chairman of the Ethics and Compliance Committee of the International Association of Drilling Contractors and is a frequent lecturer at oil and gas and international compliance events and seminars.

Mr. Palmer has been with Marathon for 34 years. After graduating with highest distinction from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business with a bachelor of science degree in finance, he began his career as a financial analyst in the Company’s Treasury organization. He was appointed vice president, Crude Supply and Logistics on June 1, 2010. Prior to his current position, he was Crude Supply and Logistics director since February 2010.

In 2007, following Marathon’s acquisition of Western Oil Sands Inc., Mr. Palmer was named senior vice president, Oil Sands Operations and Commercial Activities, for Marathon Oil Canada Corporation. Jay R. Pryor is Vice President for Corporate Business Development at Chevron Corporation, responsible for identifying and developing large-scale upstream and downstream business opportunities. Previously Mr. Pryor was Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria Ltd., where he directed Chevron’s oil and gas operations in West Africa. He also served as Managing Director of the Asia South business unit and Managing Director of Chevron Offshore (Thailand) Ltd. Earlier with Chevron he held a succession of management positions with increasing responsibilities in Asia, the United States, Europe, and the former Soviet Union. Most recently he was instrumental in establishing Chevron’s presence in Turkmenistan. Other positions include General Manager of Human Resources for Chevron’s worldwide operations and Manager of Petroleum Engineering in the newly established Tengizchevroil joint venture in Kazakhstan for Chevron’s international subsidiary, Chevron Overseas Petroleum Inc. Mr. Pryor also had a leadership role in establishing the Center for Sustainable Energy Efficiency at the Qatar Science and Technology Park, where Qatari engineers, scientists, and students will be trained in the advancement of renewables and energy efficiency technologies. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and founded the society’s first branch in Kazakhstan. Mr. Pryor is a member of the board of trustees of the Eisenhower Fellowships, the Ernst & Young Corporate Development Leadership Network, the RAND Corporation Business Leaders Forum, and the US-Russia Business Council. He holds a BS from Mississippi State University.

François Ravel graduated in Chemical Engineering and Energy Economics. He joined Total in 1981 and worked as a reservoir engineer in France and in Norway. In 1989 he moved to the natural gas business of Total. He held various positions in gas sales, transportation and business development for Total Exploration & Production, in Paris, London and Abu Dhabi. He joined Total Gas & Power in 2002 as Head of Market Analysis in the Trading-Marketing division. He is currently Vice-President LNG Marketing.

James B. Robb is senior vice president - Enterprise Planning and Development, of the Northeast Utilities system (NU).  He is responsible for the Company’s strategic planning, technology development, and business development initiatives. 

Robb began his career as an engineer for Chevron Corporation in 1984.  In 1988, he joined the management consulting firm McKinsey & Company as an associate in San Francisco, where he served clients in the energy and natural resource sectors for 14 years.  He was elected a partner of the Firm in 1994 and then led the Energy and Resources practice in western North America.

In 2002, Robb joined the leadership team of Reliant Energy as Senior Vice President.  He developed the turn around and restructuring plan for the energy merchant and then assumed responsibility for its $1 billion EBITDA competitive retail marketing business.  In the three years he led that team, Reliant significantly expanded its residential and small business market share in Texas and successfully expanded its large Commercial and Industrial business to Maryland and New Jersey.

He left Reliant in 2006 and joined the Executive Search Firm Russell Reynolds Associates as a Managing Director and leader in their Energy Practice.  He joined NU in the fall of 2007.

Robb has also had an active community profile, having been nominated to the Board of Directors of the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, served the San Francisco Bay Area Economic Forum on a number of critical energy policy topics, and was vice president of Marketing and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of the Houston Symphony.  He currently serves as Trustee for the Wadsworth Atheneum, America’s oldest public art museum.  He has been an active supporter of the United Way for 20 years.

Robb holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.  Both degrees were awarded with honors.  He lives in Farmington, Connecticut, with his wife, Janice, and three children.

Andrew Safran is Vice Chairman of Global Banking and Chairman of Citi's Global Energy, Power and Chemicals groups.  During his 20+ years on Wall Street, Mr. Safran has been involved in a number of landmark transactions including Koch Industries acquisition of Georgia Pacific, Williams Companies restructuring and the management buyout of Kinder Morgan Inc. Mr. Safran is widely credited with being one of the developers of the Master Limited Partnership market place, which has grown to over $200 billion. 

Mr. Safran graduated from Tufts University in 1976 and received his M.A. in 1977 from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.  Upon graduation from Fletcher, Mr. Safran was an intern in the Bureau of African Affairs in the State Department stationed in Bujumbura Burundi.

Recently joined Citi from Lehman Brothers, where he was a Vice Chairman and Head of Global Power.  Mr. Sauvage has a wide variety of experience in the power and energy sectors working with both strategic and financial sponsors, including strategic advisory, financial restructuring, and equity and debt capital raising transactions Mr. Sauvage is a Phi Beta Kappa and holds a B.A. degree, magna cum laude, in Economics from Washington University and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Significant experience includes the purchase of TXU by an investor group including KKR, TPG and Lehman Brothers, the sale of Duquesne Light Holdings to an investor group organized by Macquarie, the sale of Texas Genco to NRG, the initial public offering of ITC Holdings and the subsequent acquisitions by ITC of Michigan Electric Transmission Company and the transmission assets of Alliant Energy, the merger of Exelon Corporation with PSEG Enterprises, the merger of FPL with Constellation Energy, the restructuring of Edison Mission Energy, including the divestiture of its international generation business to International Power and Contact Energy, the divestiture of TXU’s pipeline and gas distribution businesses to Atmos Energy, the sale of MidAmerican Energy Holdings to an investor group organized by Berkshire Hathaway, and advice to PG&E Corporation on the bankruptcy of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company and strategic alternatives regarding the National Energy Group Additional experience includes acquisitions, divestitures and financings of electric utilities, merchant and contracted generation assets and gas pipelines for AES Corporation, Edison Mission Energy, and MEHC

Lee Schipper is Senior Research Engineer at the Precourt Energy Efficiency Center at Stanford University. He is also Project Scientist with Global Metropolitan Studies at the University of California at Berkeley and an affiliate of the Energy and Resources Group at the University of California. As a member two times of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate change, he is a co-recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. As a consultant Dr. Schipper works with Global Business Network/Monitor and has rejoined IHS CERA as a Senior Associate. Previously he was Director of Research for EMBARQ, the World Resources Institute (WRI) Center for Sustainable Transport, which he helped found in April 2002. Dr. Schipper came to EMBARQ from the International Energy Agency, where was a visiting Scientist from 1995 to 2001. Earlier he was Staff Senior Scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory for two decades. He worked in Group Planning at Shell International Petroleum Company in the 1980s and again in 2001, where he worked on two sets of Shell Scenarios. He has been a guest researcher at the World Bank, VVS Tekniska Foerening (Stockholm), the OECD Development Center, and the Stockholm Environment Institute. Previously he served as a consultant to the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and other international groups. He also lectures widely around the world. Dr. Schipper received a share of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his work on two Intergovernmental Panels on Climate Change. He has authored over 100 technical papers and a number of books on energy economics, environment, and transportation around the world. He takes part in numerous prestigious international panels and studies on energy and transportation and is on the editorial boards of five major journals in these fields. Dr. Schipper was a member of the Swedish Board for Transportation and Communications Research for four years and is currently a member of the US Transportation Research Board’s Committees on Sustainable Transport, on Energy, and on Developing Countries. Dr. Schipper holds a BA in music and a PhD in astrophysics from University of California at Berkeley.

Stacy Schusterman serves as Chairman and CEO of Samson Investment Company, a private oil and gas company with 1,000 employees. Samson has operations in 18 states in the U.S. and interests in the Deep Water Gulf of Mexico. Schusterman joined Samson in 1988, became Chairman and Co-CEO in 2001 and CEO in 2005. She is also Co-Founder and Chairman of Granite Properties, a commercial real estate company active in Texas, Atlanta and Denver. Schusterman is involved with various local and national charitable organizations with a particular focus on K-12 education. She is a graduate of Yale University and has an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.

Dennis Seith is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of INEOS Olefins & Polymers USA. He has been in this role for INEOS Group Limited PLC since December of 2005. Additional current duties for INEOS also include Chairman of the Board for the INEOS Nitriles Business and Board member for INEOS – Nova LLC, (a global Styrenics Joint venture between INEOS and Nova Chemicals).

Seith’s experience include roles as Sr. VP North American Operations for Innovene, a wholly owned chemicals business subsidiary of BP from its formation until it was purchased by INEOS in 2005. Additionally prior experiences with BP include refinery manager and business unit leader at its 410 K BBL per day refinery in Indiana in 2004. From 1999 to 2005 Seith held roles in Sr. Management with BP as Business Unit Leader for its Feedstocks (Olefins and Styrene in North America), Olefins Americas and Asia, and Olefins Americas business lines.

Seith began his career with Amoco as Chemical Engineer at the Chocolate Bayou manufacturing facility in 1979. He held various roles at the site as an engineer through 1984. From 1984 to 1992 he held roles in Business, Project and Product management, as well as Sales and Sales Management for Amoco’s chemical segment. From 1993-1995 he had responsibility for project and business development of aromatics and paraxylene product lines primarily in the Middle East, but also extending to projects in Europe and Singapore. Duties included development of Paraxylene licensing and commercial strategies. From 1995 to 1997 he led Amoco’s Operations Economics and Optimization group which did operational planning and economics globally for the Amoco Chemical Company. In 1998 he was appointed Global Business Manager for Amoco’s Olefins Business. In 1999 BP acquired Amoco.

Seith received his BS degree from Texas A&M University in 1979 and has received training at BP’s Executive education programs with Harvard, Stanford and Cambridge Universities. He is also currently a member of the Chemical Engineering Industrial Advisory Board at Texas A&M University.

Tom Shelby is a Senior Vice President, Division Manager and a member of the Kiewit Board of Directors. 

Mr. Shelby is a graduate in Construction Engineering from Purdue University and has an M.S. in Quantitative Analysis and an MBA from Arizona State University.  He has worked for Kiewit since 1991.  Prior to Kiewit, he worked for Bechtel Power beginning in 1981. 

With Bechtel Power, Tom primarily worked in nuclear power plants for Bechtel Construction and its subsidiaries as an engineer and superintendent in green field construction and operating plants.

Tom joined the Kiewit Pacific Company in Southern California in 1991 and worked as an Area Manager on a series of water/waste water treatment plants, metro rail projects and other lump sum infrastructure projects ranging in size to $150MM.

Mr. Shelby was appointed the District Manager and President over Kiewit Power in 2000.  Kiewit Power is responsible for Kiewit’s fossil fuel EPC power market. In 2004, Kiewit expanded its emphasis on the oil and gas markets through Kiewit Energy and Tom was promoted to Division Manager and Senior Vice President, with executive oversight for Kiewit Energy Canada, Kiewit Energy Houston, Kiewit Offshore Services and Kiewit Power.  From 2007 to 2009 he held executive oversight for the Energy Group.  

In 2006, he was elected to the Board of Directors.  In 2009, he resumed executive oversight for Kiewit Power.

His project management and executive experience includes work in nuclear, gas and coal fired power plants, refinery projects, and upgrading and oil extraction in the Oil Sands areas of Canada. He has worked throughout the United States and Canada with Kiewit. 

Mike has over 31 years of experience working in the nuclear industry. He is currently the VP of Global Sales for B&W Nuclear Energy, responsible for all B&W’s commercial nuclear business global sales. He joined B&W in 2009 as part of the B&W mPower team as VP Business Development, responsible for creating awareness, customer interest,  and introducing mPower to the broader industry . Mike started in  GE’s Nuclear Energy group in 1980 in San Jose, CA, and spent most of his career  working in  GE’s various power business units  – involved with the construction, start up, and servicing of many boiling water reactors and associated turbine generators. Mike is Senior Reactor Operator certified on several BWR’s. Mike received his BSME from Northeastern University in Boston, MA, and his MBA from Northern Illinois University, in DeKalb, Illinois.

Michael Rocke joined CoolPlanetBioFuels in 2010 as Vice President of Business Development. CoolPlanetBioFuels revolutionary technology produces a negative carbon gasoline from non foodstock cellulosic biomass. Prior to joining Cool Planet, Mike was the Vice President of Business Development and Marketing at Transonic Combustion, another Mike Cheiky founded company that builds high efficiency fuel injection technology for modern gasoline engine platforms. Mike started his career at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in the Laser Engineering Group, worked as an Engineering R&D Manager at Intel Corporation and was an Alternative Energy Investment Director at Intel Capital. Mike has 2 U.S. patents in Hybrid Power Systems, and Integrated Platform and Fuel Cell Cooling.

Adrian has more than 20 years of executive management and leadership experience. As CEO, he focuses on expanding Tendril’s customer base through multiple sales and marketing channels, including alliances with leading companies. Adrian is also the vice-chair of the ZigBee Alliance, an association of companies working together to enable reliable, cost-effective, low-power, wirelessly networked, monitoring and control products based on an open global standard. Prior to Tendril, Adrian served as both interim CEO and executive vice president of Ember Corporation, a leading semiconductor provider to the Smart Grid, where he guided the company’s market strategy through its critical early-growth stage. He received his education at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the British Army’s prestigious officer training academy.

Daniel Yates is the CEO and Founder of OPOWER, an industry leading Smart Grid and Energy Efficiency software company that partners with utilities to engage their customers to drive large-scale, measurable and verifiable reductions in energy usage through a combination of behavioral science, data analytics and software expertise. 

As the CEO, Dan is responsible for the vision, strategy, and leadership of OPOWER. OPOWER is the second company that Dan has started. Prior to founding OPOWER, Dan was founder and CEO of Edusoft, the leading educational software company providing assessment platforms to US public school districts. Dan led the company from inception to national success and recognized leadership in the market and sold the 150-person, $20M revenue company to Boston-based publishing company Houghton Mifflin in 2004.

After his departure from Houghton Mifflin, Dan embarked on a year-long adventure with his wife, driving from the Arctic Sea in Alaska to the southern tip of South America. Over the course of this trip, Dan became aware of the shocking degradation of the environment, and he subsequently resolved to dedicate his life to sustaining what’s left of our natural world.

Dan received his B.A. in Computer Science, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Harvard University.

Olivier Abadie, IHS CERA Director for Downstream Europe, has 25 years of international experience in refining, trading, supply-demand analysis, and business development. Based in Paris, Mr. Abadie focuses on short- and long-term analysis of crude oil and refined products markets, transportation, and refinery investment. His expertise covers analysis of economic conditions, global oil demand and supply trends, their influence on oil and product prices, and the implied strategic challenges. He works closely with IHS CERA clients to assess how market, regulatory, economic, and political risks could modify their competitive environment. He contributes to the IHS CERA World Refined Products Outlook and IHS CERA World Oil Watch through his analysis of Western European markets. His recent research includes analysis of Middle East refining capacity, the challenges of the changing liquid refining supply, and European refining capacity, among other issues.
Prior to joining IHS CERA Mr. Abadie was Trading Manager with Perenco, in charge of optimizing crude and gas export and sales in Europe, Africa, and Latin America. Previously with ELF he was International Aviation Development manager and first Director of the company’s crude/products trading office in Moscow and held operational jobs in crude and products trading. He also held positions in Mobil refining, supply, and retail in France. Mr. Abadie teaches on oil markets in Sciences-Po and Ecole Nationale des Mines de Paris and holds MS degrees from the top level French Grandes Ecoles, Polytechnique, and Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées.

Atul Arya, Head of Energy Research, leads the IHS energy practices for IHS CERA, IHS Herold, and IHS EER. Dr. Arya has overall responsibility for leading the development and delivery of the global energy research teams. He works with IHS CERA Chairman Daniel Yergin and the IHS CERA Energy Research Council to develop the company’s research agenda and heads the IHS Energy Research team. Dr. Arya has over 25 years of leadership experience in the energy industry. He previously worked for BP, where most recently he was Chief Advisor Energy and Climate Policy. In this post he was responsible for analyzing the impact of energy and climate policies on BP’s long-range participation choices, and developing its strategic and policy response. His career includes international leadership experience in a diverse array of energy fields spanning strategy development, business planning, field operations and technology commercialization. His experience includes leadership in solar energy development as well as oil and gas. Early in his career Dr. Arya was a consultant in the oil and gas sector in United States, Europe, and the Middle East.

Dr. Arya is a Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Council of Foreign Relations, Distinguished Lecturer at the Society of Petroleum Engineers; a member of the Global Agenda Council on Climate Change with the World Economic Forum; an Advisory Board member for the National Council for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado; and an Advisory Council member for the University of Kent in the United Kingdom. He holds a B. Tech. from the Indian School of Mines, an MS from University of Tulsa, and a doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin.

Bhushan Bahree, IHS CERA Senior Director, is a widely respected authority on global oil markets with particular reference to OPEC and the Middle East. For nearly 30 years Mr. Bahree has analyzed decision-making and developments in the oil-exporting world, identifying and explaining Middle East and global oil and energy trends, including OPEC strategies and development. Mr. Bahree is based in IHS CERA’s Washington, DC, office. 

Before joining IHS CERA he was Director of Energy Research for Medley Global Advisors. Mr. Bahree achieved worldwide recognition during his 15 years as The Wall Street Journal’s chief international energy correspondent. Educated in India where he started his journalistic career, Mr. Bahree joined Dow Jones & Co. in New York in 1970. In addition to extensively covering energy issues, he reported on a range of key global economic matters such as monetary policy, world trade negotiations, and the founding of the World Trade Organization during extended postings in Paris, Geneva, London, and New York. As Deputy Managing Editor for AP-Dow Jones, Mr. Bahree directed the newswire’s energy coverage before becoming the Journal’s chief international energy correspondent, a position he held until 2007.

Mary Lashley Barcella, IHS CERA Director, follows North American natural gas markets, focusing on long-term outlooks, pricing, economics, and policy. Recent research includes water issues in natural gas production, scenario analysis, and the role of natural gas in a carbon-constrained environment. She coauthored the IHS CERA Multiclient Study Fueling North America’s Energy Future.  Dr. Barcella has thirty years' experience in energy market, policy, regulatory, investment, and geopolitical analysis, as well as macroeconomic forecasting. She has provided consulting services to government and industry clients focusing on natural gas pipeline regulation, energy market analysis, and energy modeling and statistics. Before joining IHS CERA she held positions at the American Petroleum Institute, the American Gas Association, and several energy consulting firms. She served as managing editor for Geopolitics of Energy and on the editorial board of Energy Politics. She was a founding member of the International Association for Energy Economics and is also a member of the National Association for Business Economics and the American Economic Association. Dr. Barcella holds a BA magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University and an MA and a PhD in economics from the University of Maryland.

Rob Barnett, IHS CERA Associate Director, specializes in energy sector economics, environmental policy and strategy, and emissions markets. Mr. Barnett is responsible for the climate change and clean energy assumptions that underpin IHS CERA’s Global Scenarios, including carbon dioxide emissions price outlooks. He is the author of numerous IHS CERA reports on topics that include global emissions trends, US clean air regulations, Chinese greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions trends and policy, life-cycle GHG emissions accounting, cost recovery for pollution control expenditures, and European emissions trading. Recently he led the environmental market analysis for the IHS CERA Multiclient Study Growth in the Canadian Oil Sands: Finding the New Balance. Leila Benali, IHS CERA Director, focuses on the energy policies (oil, gas, and power) of Middle Eastern and African countries. Her expertise includes various projects for governments and international companies, advising them on energy strategies. This involves direct discussions and presentations to senior government officials and private sector senior management. For example, as a core member of IHS CERA's contribution to developing a National Economic Strategy in Libya, Mrs. Benali focused on the economics and issues to be addressed at the policy level in the gas and power sectors. Her recent research included several papers and analyses of the political, economic, and energy situations in most OPEC countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates [UAE], Algeria, and others) as well as Oman, Sudan, and Mauritania. She also focuses on horizontal themes within the region such as gas developments and nuclear power. Prior to joining IHS CERA Mrs. Benali conducted field research on the liberalization of the UAE power sector. She also worked on assessments of the political and social climate in Lebanon and Syria and as an industrial engineer at Schlumberger. Mrs. Benali is a member of the Executive Committee of the Arab Energy Club and a member of the International Association of Energy Economists. She holds an MS from l’Ecole Mohammadia d’Ingenieurs, Rabat, Morocco; an MS from l’Ecole Centrale Paris; and a Master of Political Science and a PhD in economics from l’Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris.

Kristian Bodek, IHS CERA Associate Director, specializes in power generation technology, demand-side energy efficiency, and environmental policy and emissions markets. Mr. Bodek leads IHS CERA’s North American solar photovoltaics and conventional air pollutant outlooks and is a regular contributor to the IHS CERA North American Gas and Power Scenarios. Topics of his recent and upcoming reports include solar photovoltaics, state-level energy efficiency policies, residential electricity demand, and the US clean air markets. Prior to joining IHS CERA Mr. Bodek was a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Center for 21st Century Energy. His work focused on modeling the future fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions from Europe’s passenger vehicle fleet under various powertrain and fuel scenarios. Mr. Bodek holds a BS from Bates College and MS degrees from MIT.

Aaron F. Brady, IHS CERA Director, Global Oil, is an expert in the global oil market, including downstream price dynamics, political and regulatory influences, and economic trends. His analyses focus on the fundamentals of the North American refined product markets and on energy/environmental legislation and regulatory issues, including the role of alternative fuels. Mr. Brady is a regular contributor to IHS CERA’s Global Oil Advisory Service, providing market analysis on supply and demand fundamentals and key trends in the global downstream industry for both the IHS CERA World Refined Product Outlook and the World Oil Watch. He is the author of several IHS CERA Private Reports, including an investigation of peak gasoline demand in the United States and the potential for plug-in hybrid electric cars. He was also a key contributor to the IHS CERA Multiclient Studies Growth in the Canadian Oil Sands: Finding the New Balance and Crossing the Divide: The Future of Clean Energy. James Burkhard, Managing Director of IHS CERA’s Global Oil Group, leads the team of IHS CERA experts that analyze and assess upstream and downstream market conditions and changes in the oil and gas industry’s competitive environment. A foundation of this work is detailed short- and long-term outlooks for global crude oil and refined products markets that are integrated with outlooks for other energy sources, economic growth, geopolitics, and security. Mr. Burkhard’s expertise covers geopolitics, industry dynamics, and global oil demand and supply trends.

Mr. Burkhard also leads the IHS CERA Global Energy Scenarios, which combines energy, economic, and security expertise across the IHS Insight businesses into a comprehensive, scenarios-based framework for assessing and projecting global and regional energy market and industry dynamics. Previously he led Dawn of a New Age: Global Energy Scenarios for Strategic Decision Making—The Energy Future to 2030, which encompassed the oil, gas, and electricity sectors. He led the team that developed demand-oriented recommendations that were published in the 2007 NPC report Facing the Hard Truths About Energy. Before joining IHS CERA Mr. Burkhard was a member of the United States Peace Corps in Niger, West Africa. He directed infrastructure projects to improve water availability and credit facilities. He was also a field operator for Rod Electric. Mr. Burkhard holds a BA from Hamline University and an MS from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.

Patricia DiOrio, IHS CERA Director, is responsible for leading development of technology-related research content for IHS CERA’s North American Power Advisory Service and for leading development and delivery of research content for IHS CERA’s Global Power Forum. She is an expert in power industry technology, business strategy, financial analysis, and regional electric power markets. Topics of her recent and upcoming research include demand response, smart grid, electric vehicles, power generation asset value drivers, boom-and-bust cycles in power asset values, power sector water use, and the cost of wind power. Before joining IHS CERA Ms. DiOrio was a Director at Competitive Power Ventures, Inc., responsible for acquisition and development of natural gas–fired combined-cycle power generation facilities. Previously she was a Development Manager and Senior Financial Analyst at PG&E National Energy Group, where she evaluated the economic viability of projects and assisted in all phases of development for natural gas–fired combined-cycle and simple-cycle power development projects. Ms. DiOrio holds a BS from the University of Massachusetts, an MS from Boston University, and an MBA from Babson College.

Marie N. Fagan, IHS CERA Senior Director, is responsible for leading power market fundamentals and integrated analysis for the IHS CERA North American Electric Power Advisory Service and providing oversight of the IHS CERA North American Gas and Power Scenarios Service. She provided direction and oversight for the launch of IHS CERA’s Global Steam Coal Advisory Service. Dr. Fagan’s research has included interpretation of energy issues ranging from upstream oil and gas through downstream North American refined products, natural gas, and electric power. She has advised financial institutions and international oil, gas, and power companies on the energy investment climate and corporate strategy. She previously served as the research director for the IHS CERAView Institutional Investor Service, launching and delivering IHS CERA’s first research service tailored for specific client needs. Earlier Dr. Fagan served as a Director with IHS CERA’s North American Natural Gas Advisory Service, responsible for the editorial content of major research and analytical reports, and served as executive editor of the IHS CERA Monthly Briefing on North American gas markets. Dr. Fagan also served as an Associate Director with IHS CERA’s Global Oil Advisory Service and as an economist with the US Department of Energy. She has conducted pioneering research into the effect of technology on upstream oil and gas costs. She holds a BS from the University of Connecticut School of Business and an MA and a PhD from the American University.

Jackie Forrest, IHS CERA Director, Global Oil, leads the research effort for the IHS CERA Oil Sands Energy Dialogue. Her expertise encompasses all aspects of petroleum evaluations, including refining, processing, upgrading, and products. She actively monitors emerging strategic trends related to oil sands including capital projects, economics, policy, environment, and markets. She is the author of several IHS CERA Private Reports, including an investigation of US heavy crude supply and prices. Additional contributions to research include reports on the life-cycle emissions from crude oil, the impacts of low-carbon fuel standards, and the role of oil sands in US oil supply. Ms. Forrest was the IHS CERA project manager for the Multiclient Study Growth in the Canadian Oil Sands: Finding the New Balance, a comprehensive assessment of the benefits, risks, and issues associated with oil sands development. Before joining IHS CERA Ms. Forrest was a consultant in the oil industry, focusing on technical and economic evaluations of refining and oil sands projects. Ms. Forrest is a professional engineer and holds a degree from the University of Calgary and an MBA from Queens University.

Bob Fryklund, IHS CERA Vice President of Upstream Research, has over 30 years of industry experience. Mr. Fryklund’s focus is on global upstream strategic leadership and opportunity access and assessment. Prior to joining IHS Mr. Fryklund served as Libya President and as Brazil Country Manager for ConocoPhillips. He also has held various leadership positions with British Borneo, Union Texas, and Amerada Hess. Mr. Fryklund is a member of the Houston Geological Society and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and has published numerous articles in three languages. A recognized expert on upstream oil and gas, he frequently speaks at key industry meetings, such as the World Economic Forum, CERAWeek, IHS Herold’s Pacesetters Energy Conference, the Offshore Technology Conference, and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists conference. He is also an established media consultant and source for both print and television media. Mr. Fryklund serves on or has served on several boards and executive committees, including with the Independent Producers Association of America; the Brazilian Petroleum Institute; the International Energy Agency; the Libya-US Council, a bilateral trade association; and American School of Tripoli. Mr. Fryklund holds an AB from Hamilton College, has completed advanced studies from the University of Houston and the University of Tulsa, and holds an advanced certificate in management. He is based in the company’s Houston office.

Douglas D. Giuffre, IHS CERA Associate, is a specialist in North American power market fundamentals. He focuses on supply and demand outlooks, wholesale power pricing, and industry structure in Northeast markets and is lead author of IHS CERA’s Northeast Power Market Briefing. His expertise includes analyses of regional capacity markets, the economics of generating capacity, and retail power pricing. His recent and upcoming research includes analyses of New England’s Forward Capacity Market, demand-side resources, and the economics of energy storage. Prior to joining IHS CERA Mr. Giuffre was a research economist at the Beacon Hill Institute, where he specialized in regulatory policy issues including tax incentives for renewable energy. Mr. Giuffre holds a BA from the University of Massachusetts and an MS from Suffolk University.

Tiffany A. Groode, IHS CERA Director, leads the research effort for IHS CERA's Automotive Scenarios Advisory Service. Her expertise includes the modeling and analysis of the personal and commercial vehicle sectors. In this capacity Dr. Groode has developed comprehensive structural capital stock vintaging models that provide insights into the implications of vehicle powertrain technologies, fuel prices, and government regulations on the future vehicle mix and fuels demand. Her expertise also includes analyzing the environmental impacts of ethanol production by performing life-cycle uncertainty analysis, evaluating well-to-wheels emissions, and assessing the potential scale of bioethanol production from various biomass sources.

As a leader of the IHS CERA vehicle market research effort, Dr. Groode regularly presents our research findings and insights to major automakers, federal government agencies, and petroleum and biofuels providers in the United States and abroad. While working at the Sloan Automotive Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Dr. Groode presented her bioethanol results and conclusions to a variety of national government agencies to provide insight for policy decisions. Dr. Groode holds a BS from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an MS and a PhD from MIT.

Samantha Gross, IHS CERA Director, specializes in helping energy companies navigate the complex intersection of policy, environment, and technology. She is the manager of IHS CERA’s Global Energy service. She led the environmental and social aspects of IHS CERA’s recent Multiclient Study Growth in the Canadian Oil Sands: Finding the New Balance, including consideration of water use and quality, local community impacts, and aboriginal issues. Ms. Gross was also the IHS CERA project manager for Towards a More Energy Efficient World and Thirsty Energy: Water and Energy in the 21^st Century, both produced in conjunction with the World Economic Forum. Additional contributions to IHS CERA research include reports on the water impacts of unconventional gas production, international climate change negotiations, US vehicle fuel efficiency regulations, and the California low-carbon fuel standard. Before joining IHS CERA she was a Senior Analyst with the Government Accountability Office. Her professional experience also includes providing engineering solutions to the environmental challenges faced by petroleum refineries and other clients. Ms. Gross holds a BS from the University of Illinois, an MS from Stanford University, and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.

Thane Gustafson, IHS CERA Senior Director of Russian and Caspian Energy, is a widely recognized authority on Eurasia who has spent 35 years studying and traveling in Russia, Ukraine, and the rest of the Former Soviet Union. He is the author of Capitalism Russian Style, described as “a tough-minded analysis of Russia’s roller-coaster ride from communism to capitalism” by Pulitzer Prize winner Hedrick Smith. Dr. Gustafson is also the coauthor (with Daniel Yergin) of Russia 2010 and What It Means for the World and the author of Crisis amid Plenty: The Politics of Soviet Energy under Brezhnev and Gorbachev, which was awarded the Marshall Shulman Prize as the best book on Soviet affairs. Dr. Gustafson is currently at work on a history of the Russian oil and gas industry since the end of the Soviet Union. Formerly a professor at Harvard University and a political analyst at the Rand Corporation, he is also professor of government at Georgetown University.

Dr. Gustafson founded IHS CERA’s Russian and Caspian team and directed it for 15 years. He is the author of over 200 IHS CERA reports, including analyses of technology transfer and the Russian “oil miracle”; gas market development and transportation issues, including new pipelines; quality banking; Russian oil production growth and the domestic and foreign markets; US-Russian political and energy relations; regulatory and legal reform in the Russian energy sector; and gas and power reform.

Dr. Gustafson holds a BS from the University of Illinois and a PhD from Harvard University.

Katherine Hardin, IHS CERA Senior Director, Russian and Caspian Energy, leads IHS CERA’s Integrated Research Group and is a member of the IHS CERA leadership team. Ms. Hardin has worked extensively in Russia and the Former Soviet Union (FSU) since 1990 and focuses on energy sector development in Russia, Central Asia, and the Caucasus. Her expertise includes the oil and gas industry in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region, and she has authored IHS CERA reports on oil and gas production and export routes from the Caspian region, regional gas pricing across the CIS, and the current wave of Asian investment in Central Asia, among other topics. Prior to joining IHS CERA Ms. Hardin worked as an energy consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, advising on power sector privatization throughout the FSU with a focus on Central Asia and the Caucasus. Ms. Hardin is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and also a Fellow with the United States-Japan Foundation. She holds an undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University, an MA from Yale University, and an MBA from the Yale School of Management.

John C. Harris, IHS CERA Director, leads coverage of the Asia Pacific gas markets and is an expert on liquefied natural gas (LNG). He took a lead role in the coordination of the global gas message within the Multiclient Study IHS CERA Energy Scenarios to 2030 and a similar role in Feeding the Dragon: China’s Energy Future. He has worked extensively in Asia and the Middle East, undertaking due diligence and investment appraisal in the energy sector for both governments and private enterprises. His project work includes several major studies of China’s natural gas market at the regional and provincial levels. Mr. Harris is an external advisor to the International Gas Union.

A primary contributor to IHS CERA’s Global LNG Advisory Services, he also provides analysis on a range of energy-related issues in support of IHS CERA’s clients and presents at both private and public industry forums. Prior to joining IHS CERA Mr. Harris spent over a decade with Drewry Shipping Consultants, becoming a Director of the company in 1997 and ultimately assuming responsibility for the Shipping Strategy Group. Earlier Mr. Harris worked as a London-based commodity analyst for part of the Noranda Group. Mr. Harris has been based in IHS CERA’s Beijing office since 2005. He holds a BSc from the University of Birmingham and an MBA from the United Kingdom’s Open University.

Keith Hays is a Partner and Research Director at Emerging Energy Research (EER). Mr. Hays manages EER’s Barcelona office and heads EER’s wind energy advisory services. Since joining EER in 2003 he has provided strategic analysis and recommendations to leading players in the energy industry, with a focus on competitive strategy in renewable power generation technologies. Prior to joining EER Mr. Hays developed market strategies as a management consultant at DiamondCluster Consulting (now Oliver Wyman), and carried out European research for Pyramid Research, a telecommunications research and advisory company. Fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, Mr. Hays holds a BA from Columbia University and an MBA from IESE Business School in Barcelona.

David Hobbs, IHS CERA Chief Energy Strategist, is an expert in energy industry structure and strategies. He previously managed IHS CERA’s energy research activities. Mr. Hobbs is a principal author of the major IHS CERA studies Fueling North America’s Energy Future: The Unconventional Natural Gas Revolution and the Carbon Agenda, a comprehensive examination of the impact of the changed natural gas supply outlook on energy markets, power generation technology choices, and the challenges of procuring a low carbon future; In Search of Reasonable Certainty: Oil and Gas Reserves Disclosures and Modernizing Oil and Gas Disclosures, comprehensive analyses of the problem of assessing oil and gas reserves and resulting proposed solutions; “Recession Shock”: The Impact of the Economic and Financial Crisis on the Oil Market, a major IHS CERA assessment of the world economic crisis; and of the IHS CERA Multiclient Study Harnessing the Storm—Investment Challenges and the Future of the Oil Value Chain. He was a project advisor to the IHS CERA Multiclient Study Crossing the Divide: The Future of Clean Energy.

Mr. Hobbs is IHS CERA's representative on the management board of the Global Energy Executive MBA program run jointly between the Haskayne School of Business and IHS CERA. He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei. Prior to joining IHS CERA Mr. Hobbs had two decades of experience in the international exploration and production business. He has directed projects in Asia, South America, North America, and the North Sea. He has led major international investment and asset commercialization operations. Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Mr. Hobbs holds a degree from Imperial College.

Mark Hutchinson, IHS CERA Senior Director, specializes in Asian and Middle East power and fuel markets. He is also head of IHS CERA’s Global Power consulting practice. Mr. Hutchinson is an expert in strategic analysis, market assessments, fuel strategies, market entry and exit, project financing, due diligence, and other issues related to power and fuel markets. His clients have included international and regional power companies, many regional governments, commercial and development banks, oil and gas majors and independents, investment banks, and pension funds. Based in Singapore, he has lived in Asia for 16 years. Mr. Hutchinson recently managed the IHS CERA Multiclient Study Southeast Asia’s Energy Future: Balancing Competition and Integration. In addition to his consulting experience, he worked at a US utility for five years and a boutique investment bank in Asia for three years. Mr. Hutchinson has an economics degree from Earlham College and a Master of Public Policy degree from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Robert Ineson, IHS CERA Senior Director, leads IHS CERA’s North American Natural Gas and Global LNG research activities. Mr. Ineson specializes in analysis of North American gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) markets, natural gas pricing and transmission, and corporate strategy. Mr. Ineson is a coauthor, with IHS CERA Chairman Daniel Yergin, of The Wall Street Journal op-ed piece "America’s Natural Gas Revolution." Mr. Ineson is a coauthor of the IHS CERA Multiclient Studies Fueling North America’s Energy Future and Rising to the Challenge: Turning North America’s Unconventional Potential into Reality—A Supply Study to 2018. His past work includes the IHS CERA Multiclient Studies Diminishing Returns: The Cost of North American Gas Supply in an Unconventional Era; New Realities, New Risks: North American Gas and Power Scenarios Through 2020; and The Alchemist’s Challenge: Turning the Southern Cone’s Natural Gas into Gold.  His recent research focuses on the unconventional natural gas revolution and on the evolution of global LNG markets.

Before joining IHS CERA Mr. Ineson was Director of Market Forecasting at Coral Energy. He previously held analytical positions with Texas Eastern, KN Energy, and Tenneco Energy and as Principal of the gas consulting practice at Resource Data International (RDI). He is the author of RDI’s Convergence of Gas and Power and articles on gas transportation modeling, deregulation, and the North American gas market. Mr. Ineson holds a BA from the State University of New York at Albany and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School.

Peter M. Jackson, IHS CERA Head of Research – Exploration, Production, Technology, and Cost, is a widely respected authority on oil and gas production and upstream development. He combines expertise with practical experience in some of the world’s most important production areas. At IHS CERA he is responsible for global oil and gas capacity outlooks. A major component of his research is examining current trends and challenges in production capacity and reserves distribution as well as forecasting which areas will become a focus for future exploration and production (E&P) industry investment. He was author of IHS CERA’s 2009 Special Report The Future of Global Oil Supply: Understanding the Building Blocks. Recent research topics tackled by IHS CERA’s Supply Team include the role of exploration in supply growth, the potential for resource growth in Indonesia, and understanding the drivers of upstream success in deep water. He has also played a major role in developing IHS CERA’s new E&P Trends Forum and is Project Director for IHS CERA’s new Multiclient Study Breaking with Convention: Prospects for European Unconventional Gas. Dr. Jackson has 22 years of E&P experience with what were Britain’s two leading independent oil companies, Britoil and Enterprise Oil, as a geologist and manager. With Enterprise he was President and General Manager of Enterprise Oil’s Gulf of Mexico business, where he gained extensive experience with deepwater development. He served as Chief Geologist for Enterprise, responsible for the worldwide view of prospects and development, while Enterprise was the world’s largest independent oil company. He also gained extensive knowledge of E&P projects while working in the United Kingdom, Indonesia, and Italy. Dr. Jackson holds a BSc from St. Andrews University and a PhD from Edinburgh University.

Judson Jacobs, IHS CERA Research Director, leads IHS CERA’s Upstream Technology practice. In this role he studies the strategic implications of oilfield and digital technologies in the exploration and production (E&P) sector. He was the primary contributor to IHS CERA’s Digital Oil Field of the Future (DOFF) Multiclient Study and continues to examine technology issues related to field development and production activities in leading IHS CERA’s DOFF Forum service. Other recent research includes the changing dynamics of upstream research and development, the emergence and implications of the Predictive Organization, and industry knowledge management trends. Prior to joining IHS CERA Mr. Jacobs worked at the Mitchell Madison Group, a strategy consulting firm, where he served the energy and financial services sectors. His background in the upstream oil and gas industry includes senior engineering positions with Schlumberger and exploration roles with Anadarko Petroleum Corporation’s international division. Mr. Jacobs holds a BSE from Princeton University and an MS in Geology from Stanford University.

Alex Klein is a Research Director, Renewable and Clean Power Generation Advisory, for Emerging Energy Research (EER). In this role Mr. Klein directs the company’s market research and analysis in alternative energy strategies, including large-scale renewables, nuclear, and clean coal technologies. Prior to joining EER Mr. Klein was a Senior Analyst with Juniper Consultancy Services in the United Kingdom, specializing in novel thermal treatment technologies, including gasification and pyrolysis. Mr. Klein holds a BS from the University of Vermont and an MS from Columbia University.

Roger Kranenburg, IHS CERA Director, focuses on serving the needs of global power clients. For the past 20 years he has held senior advisory, policy, advocacy, research and development, product development, program management, technology strategy, corporate development, and business development roles in the energy and wireless telecommunications industries. He has extensive domestic and international experience in the fields of engineering, business, and finance, including investment and commodities trading.

Previously Mr. Kranenburg was the Director of Energy Supply and Taxation at the Edison Electric Institute, where he led policy development and advocacy in a variety of areas including renewable energy, generation investment, and risk management. He was instrumental in the passage of key legislation such as the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and regulations before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Internal Revenue Service, and the US Treasury. He also represented the United States investor-owned electric utility sector as a keynote speaker and panel chair at more than 75 events and served as a board member for the Power PAC, the US investor-owned utilities’ political action committee. His earlier positions include Director of Business Operations, Europe, for Teligent, a wireless telecommunications company, as well as several technical roles directing research and product development for automation systems, microwave telecommunications, and superconductor technology. Mr. Kranenburg has published papers and written articles on topics including renewable energy, energy trading, automation systems, superconductivity, and wireless telecommunications. A CFA Charter holder, Mr. Kranenburg holds an MSc and an MBA from the University of Houston.

Robert LaCount, IHS CERA Senior Director and Head of IHS CERA’s Climate Change and Clean Energy Group, is an authority on environmental policy and strategy, climate change legislation and regulations, and emissions trading. Mr. LaCount recently managed the environmental analysis for the IHS CERA Multiclient Studies Crossing the Divide: The Future of Clean Energy and Dawn of a New Age: Global Energy Scenarios for Strategic Decision Making—The Energy Future to 2030. He was also the project director for the IHS CERA Special Report Design Issues for Market-based Greenhouse Gas Reduction Strategies and the IHS CERA Special Study Clearing the Air: Scenarios for the Future of US Emissions Markets. Mr. LaCount joined IHS CERA from PG&E National Energy Group where he was Director of Environmental Policy and Strategy. He has managed the design and implementation of numerous environmental regulations and emissions trading programs in previous positions with the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Maryland Department of the Environment.

Mr. LaCount holds a BA from Wittenberg University, an MS from the University of Pennsylvania and the French Petroleum Institute, and an MBA from the University of Maryland.

Vera de Ladoucette, IHS CERA Senior Associate, is a distinguished expert in international relations and the energy industry and has held posts in both government and industry. Before becoming a Senior Associate, she managed IHS CERA’s Middle East research team as IHS CERA Senior Vice President and Senior Director, Middle East Research, and headed the Paris office. Mrs. de Ladoucette has written numerous IHS CERA reports, mainly on the geopolitical and economic impact of developments in OPEC, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Libya, and Algeria, particularly concerning the world oil market. Before joining IHS CERA Mrs. de Ladoucette was Senior Vice President for International Relations at TotalFinaElf. Up until the merger in 2000 between TotalFina and Elf, she held a similar position with Elf Aquitaine (1993–2000) as Vice President, International Relations. Mrs. de Ladoucette joined Elf Aquitaine in 1982. Previously she was an advisor for International Affairs to the Undersecretary for Energy at the Ministry of Industry in France (1975–82). In January 2000 Mrs. de Ladoucette was appointed Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur for her contribution to the energy field by the French government. She holds two master's degrees, one in law from the Paris Law University and one in political science from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris, and a bachelor's degree in sociology from the Sorbonne University.

David Ledesma, IHS CERA Senior Associate, has 30 years of experience in the energy and utility sectors. Mr. Ledesma is an expert in strategy along the energy business value chain, including structuring of commercial arrangements, supporting financing, and analyzing markets, as well as in the analysis and review of oil and gas pricing globally. His focus includes strategic development of complex integrated gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects, negotiations at the government level, and management of joint ventures. He is an experienced commercial manager with expertise in developing company strategy, and analyzing and closing commercial transactions. Mr. Ledesma also presents commercial training courses on gas and LNG in the United Kingdom and abroad, facilitates strategy and scenario workshops for industry and government, and speaks regularly at conferences. Previously with Shell, Mr. Ledesma held posts and directed projects in Malaysia, the Netherlands, Oman, and Asia, including a major Middle East LNG project. He was formerly Managing Director and Director of Consulting for the Gas Strategies Group (formally EconoMatters Ltd). Mr. Ledesma is a Research Fellow of the Oxford Institute Energy Studies and coauthored for the Institute Gas in Asia (2008) and Natural Gas in the Middle East and North Africa (2011); he has also written on the relationship between national and international oil companies in the LNG value chain. Mr. Ledesma holds a degree from the University of Exeter.

Parker Littlehale, IHS CERA Associate, is a member of IHS CERA’s Gas, Power, and Renewables—Americas Group. He focuses on the business strategy of power companies, the economics of generation technologies, and mergers and acquisitions. He was the project manager for the IHS CERA Multiclient Study Smart Grid: Closing the Gap Between Perception and Reality and was a contributor to the IHS CERA Multiclient Study Fueling North America’s Energy Future: The Unconventional Natural Gas Revolution and the Carbon Agenda. Prior to joining the Global Power Group he worked in the IHS CERA sales department managing client relationships in the utility and financial sectors. Mr. Littlehale holds a BA from the University of New Hampshire and an MBA from Suffolk University.

Scott Lockhart is Vice President, Environmental Solutions, at IHS. Mr. Lockhart has 15 years of experience in leveraging enterprise software for asset optimization, EHS, and compliance with clients representing a variety of vertical industries, including oil and gas, electric utilities, chemicals, aviation, metals, and pulp industries. Mr. Lockhart joined IHS from his previous position as Vice President and Executive Board Member of Data Systems & Solutions (DS&S), a division of Rolls Royce. He was focused on enterprise asset management and optimization, equipment health monitoring, process safety, and compliance. In addition to business management and growth objectives on DS&S’s executive board Mr. Lockhart was responsible for the operations, services, and software groups. His experience also includes key leadership roles at Trinity Consultants and SAIC.

Lawrence J. Makovich, IHS CERA Vice President and Senior Advisor for Global Power, is a highly respected expert on the electric power industry. He directs IHS CERA research efforts in the power sector as part of IHS CERA’s Office of the Chairman. He is an authority on electricity markets, regulation, economics, and strategy. His current research focuses on electric power market structures, demand and supply fundamentals, wholesale and retail power markets, emerging technologies, and asset valuations and strategies.

Dr. Makovich is currently advising or has recently advised several large utilities in major strategic engagements. He has testified numerous times before the US Congress on electric power policy. He has advised the government of China on electric power deregulation and transmission in competitive markets, and the Brazilian Congress invited him to testify on power liberalization. He examined the impact of deregulation on residential power prices and the development of resource adequacy mechanisms in the IHS CERA Multiclient Study Beyond the Crossroads: The Future Direction of Power Industry Restructuring. He was also a project director for the IHS CERA Multiclient Study Crossing the Divide: The Future of Clean Energy. Among Dr. Makovich's other significant IHS CERA studies are examinations of the California power crisis in Crisis by Design: California's Electric Power Crunch and Beyond California's Power Crisis: Impact, Solutions, and Lessons.

Dr. Makovich has been a lecturer on managerial economics at Northeastern University's Graduate School of Business. He holds a BA from Boston College, an MA from the University of Chicago, and a PhD from the University of Massachusetts.

Paul Markwell, IHS CERA Senior Director, is an expert in upstream oil and gas and strategy development and leads the application of IHS CERA’s Global Oil team research to client-specific studies. He works closely with a range of clients and IHS CERA’s research leaders to identify clients’ strategic needs and directs the delivery of client engagements. He focuses in particular on upstream oil and gas–related strategy advice for international oil companies and service companies, and integrated energy policy development work for governments. He has worked with senior energy policymakers in the Middle East and North Africa and managed IHS CERA's contribution to a National Economic Strategy project for the Libyan government in 2005.He also contributes to IHS CERA research and has authored papers on stategic aspects of mature oil field development.

Prior to joining IHS CERA Mr. Markwell worked for over two decades in the upstream oil and gas industry and subsequent consulting related roles. He held posts at McKinsey and Company as an upstream expert consultant and as European Petroleum Practice Manager, supporting the delivery of firmwide knowledge and providing expert advice to oil and gas consulting teams. Previously Mr. Markwell spent 18 years in international exploration and production companies, most recently as General Manager for British-Borneo’s business in Pakistan, responsible for overseeing the commercialization and development of the company’s gas assets. He also worked in Business Development roles in Hardy Oil and Gas, and Shell UK, and led numerous oil and gas acquisition and divestment projects. Mr. Markwell first joined the industry as a Petroleum Engineer with Shell International and worked in a number of operational and team leader positions in the Netherlands, Thailand, and the United Kingdom.

Mr. Markwell holds a BSc with honors from Imperial College, London, and an MBA from Henley Management College. He is based in London.

Rafael McDonald, IHS CERA Associate Director, Global Gas, focuses on fundamentals of global liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade and is the principal author of the IHS CERA Global LNG Monthly Briefing. Mr. McDonald is responsible for analysis of the global LNG balances, ascertaining the effects of supply and demand fluctuations on LNG flows, and the differentiation between short-term “flexible” deals and long-term contractual obligations. He also maintains IHS CERA’s LNG shipping database and aids in the calculations of project economics. In addition he is responsible for the global gas balances as part of the IHS Energy Scenarios. Prior to joining IHS CERA Mr. McDonald worked for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Research and Standards, where he specialized in risk assessment and exposure analysis. He holds a BSE from Princeton and an MS from Washington University in St. Louis.

Meg McIntosh, IHS CERA Director in the North America Power, Gas, and Renewables Group, focuses on financial, market, and policy analysis related to alternative energy. Ms. McIntosh’s current research is focused on various renewable technologies and the outlook for their expansion in North America. Previously Ms. McIntosh was a Director at The Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust, where she oversaw the Industry Investment and Development Program, making loans to and equity investments in early stage renewable energy companies. While at the Renewable Energy Trust she also was responsible for optimizing the organization’s renewable energy certificate contract portfolio position. Prior to joining IHS CERA Ms. McIntosh worked as an independent consultant and for PA Consulting for over eight years, advising energy and financial sector clients on a variety of wholesale energy market issues including generation asset valuation and strategy. She was also previously with Apogee Research, Inc., and with Hygienetics, Inc. Ms. McIntosh holds a BA from Hobart & William Smith Colleges and an MBA from the Yale School of Management.

Tate Nurkin is the Director of IHS Jane’s Security and Military Intelligence consultancy practice and a member of the IHS Consultancy Leadership Team. Mr. Nurkin specializes in understanding and anticipating emerging and future security and operational environments and the challenges, opportunities, and missions implied by these environments. He has nearly 15 years’ experience designing and executing scenario building and alternative futures exercises and performing regional security analyses for private sector companies and Allied defense and intelligence community clients. Mr. Nurkin is a frequent speaker on understanding existing, emerging, and future security and operational environments and the forces shaping these environments and is a member of the Steering Committee and Scenarios Integration Team for the ongoing IHS Global Scenarios Initiative. He has served as a commentator on security and defense issues for a range of US and international media, including Reuters, BBC Radio, C-SPAN’s Washington Journal, and the Canadian Broadcast Company. Mr. Nurkin’s analysis has focused particularly on environmental security issues and implications for military planners; challenges to state sovereignty and efficacy; force transformation; South Asian and Middle East security; and nuclear proliferation and deterrence issues. Prior to joining IHS Jane’s Mr. Nurkin worked for Booz Allen Hamilton’s Modeling, Simulation, Wargaming and Analysis team; the Strategic Assessment Center of Science Applications International Corporation; and Joint Management Services, a private defense consulting firm in Atlanta, Georgia. He holds a dual bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Duke University and a Master of Science International Affairs from the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

James Ooi, IHS CERA Associate Director, is an expert in international power markets, including valuation, analysis, market design, and operations. Mr. Ooi has over 11 years of experience in the energy industry and has recently focused on projects in the Middle-East and Asia. He has provided market screening and strategic decision support for a wide range of clients including utilities and oil and gas companies, advising them on project investments and benchmarking, regulatory rate base assessments, market valuation, strategic private investments into the energy sector, global climate change analysis and modeling focused on electricity generation investments and regulations, retail tariff design and regulations, corporate business strategies, and market designs. He had also worked extensively in litigation cases and valuations of generation assets primarily in the Asia Pacific region and the United States.

Prior to joining HIS CERA Mr. Ooi was Portfolio Manager at PowerSeraya Ltd., Singapore, responsible for the group’s portfolios of electricity contacts, and was also head of the Business Planning Group. Prior to PowerSeraya he was a Senior Associate in the Asia Pacific Energy and Environment Practice for Charles River Associates. Previously he was with Tenaga Nasional Berhad, the Malaysian national utility. He was also appointed as a member of the Power Market Development Group of the Economic Planning Unit of the Malaysian Prime Minister's Department. In both Malaysian posts he worked extensively on policy development for the Malaysian electricity supply industry.

Mr. Ooi holds an Honors degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southampton, and a Master’s of Science in Power System Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, both in the United Kingdom.

James A. Osten, IHS CERA Director, North American Natural Gas, has 35 years of experience in energy price forecasting, energy policy, natural gas regulation and company strategy. He has provided consulting services to industry and government clients, focusing on natural gas pipeline investments, energy market analysis, energy modelling, and energy-economic interactions. Before joining IHS CERA Mr. Osten was the Director and Chief Analyst for North American Natural Gas for IHS Global Insight and predecessor companies, responsible for forecasts and publications covering natural gas and the developing trade in liquefied natural gas. He was the principal author for research reports for North America natural gas markets, including Natural Gas Monthly and the long-term Natural Gas Outlook included in the US Energy Outlook. Mr. Osten has completed consulting assignments involving the US natural gas trade for companies on five continents. As Director of the Canadian Energy Services, Mr. Osten was the key witness for the Canadian Petroleum Association on a new natural gas export policy for Canada. Recently Mr. Osten led the IHS Global Insight multiclient studies analyzing accelerated decline of conventional supplies in Bridging the Methane Gap and the weakening of industrial demand in Demand Destruction: The Impact of Rising Natural Gas Prices. He is a member of the International Association for Energy Economics and the American Economics Association. Mr. Osten holds a BA from the University of Wisconsin and has completed graduate studies in economics at Boston College.

Christopher Pålsson is Director of the research unit of IHS Fairplay and of IHS Consultancy. Mr. Pålsson has broad experience ranging from business development to transport and logistic studies for manufacturing industries, governmental agencies, ship owners, and business organizations. He has in various roles worked with shipping and industrial market analysis since the late 1980s. Prior to joining IHS Fairplay, Mr. Pålsson was manager for strategic analysis at the Institute of Shipping Analysis. In 2008 he headed the “OPTIMAR” study, providing strategic goals and recommendations for the European Union’s maritime transport policy through 2018, which is now being implemented. Previously he was appointed national expert of Sweden in the EU PACT (Pilot Actions Combined Transportation) program. Earlier Mr. Pålsson was the administrative official at the Swedish Transport and Communications Research Board, handling the funding of research projects on goods transport and logistics. Prior to this he was managing director of Equilibrium, a consultancy firm based in Gothenburg, Sweden. Mr. Pålsson attended the School of Economics and Commercial Law at Göteborg University, Sweden.

Jonathan Parry, IHS CERA Director, leads IHS CERA’s unconventional resource research. Mr. Parry has 15 years’ experience in the international exploration and production business and is an expert in global natural gas productive capacity, corporate strategy, and complex well production and development. Mr. Parry’s recent research includes analysis of hydraulic fracturing and drinking water regulation. He also contributed to the IHS CERA Multiclient Studies Breaking with Convention: Prospects for European Unconventional Gas; Fueling North Americas Future: The Unconventional Natural Gas Revolution and the Carbon Agenda; Cream of the Crop: Performance Analytics for North America Gas Resource Plays; Fueling North America’s Energy Future: New Choices for a New Energy Paradigm; and Rising to the Challenge: Turning North America’s Unconventional Gas Supply Potential into Reality. Before joining IHS CERA in 2008 Mr. Parry held technical posts with Shell International and Chevron. As an Engineering Advisor Mr. Parry participated in major capital projects in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. He specialized in the production and completion of complex wells, for example, deepwater oil, high-pressure high-temperature gas, intelligent well, and high rate natural gas wells, and led technology developments to enhance these wells. Mr. Parry was an instructor at the BP/Chevron training alliance in deepwater artificial lift. He has lived in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States. Based in Houston Mr. Parry is a professional engineer and a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He holds a master’s degree from Christ Church, Oxford University, where he was an ICI Engineering Scholar, and a Master of Business Administration for Executives from the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management at Rice University, where he was a Jones Scholar.

Pritesh Patel, IHS CERA Director, Capital Costs Analysis Forum, is an expert in onshore and offshore oil and gas development analysis, business strategy development, forecasting, and worldwide industry issues and trends. He has over nine years of experience in domestic and international project management and strategic consulting. In the IHS CERA Capital Costs Analysis Forum he is responsible for analyzing global costs markets and monitoring emerging strategic trends. He also directs the delivery of services, facilitates discussion between IHS CERA experts and client organizations, and helps clients identify strategic needs. He holds a master's degree from Loughborough University, United Kingdom.

David Price, IHS CERA Director, is the head of IHS CERA’s Global Steam Coal Advisory Service. He is also editor of IHS McCloskey’s Steam Coal Forecaster and Coal UK. Mr. Price leads the IHS team on coal during the development of the group’s global energy scenarios. He has been the author and lead editor of many special reports on the coal industry, covering global and regional supply and demand; fuel supply chain analysis for power generators, industry, and investors; contractual frameworks; and environmental considerations. Mr. Price, who has been with McCloskey for close to 20 years, has been the editor of Coal UK since 1992 and of Steam Coal Forecaster since 1996. McCloskey was acquired by IHS at the end of 2007. Before joining McCloskey he was manager of the international coal trade service at WEFA Ltd., where he authored major multiclient studies on the international coal markets and reestablished the consulting service with both government and industry. Previously he was the senior market analyst of the dry bulk trades at Drewry Shipping Consultants Ltd. Mr. Price has spoken at conferences and conducted investor briefings around the world. He holds a BSc Hons from Birkbeck College, University of London.

Surya Rajan, IHS CERA Director, is an expert on North American natural gas supply. Mr. Rajan has more than 20 years of energy industry experience across the value chain in many sectors, including upstream exploration and production, completion technologies, tight gas operations, downstream commercial supply chain, project management, information technology, corporate management, and strategy. In addition Mr. Rajan is actively connected with the gas industry through ongoing research, analysis, publications and presentations, and participation in industry forums. His interests and analyses have included strategic workforce issues, international corporate alliance models, country entry risk assessment, and the digital oilfield. Before joining IHS CERA he held senior posts with Marathon Oil Corporation and Schlumberger. Mr. Rajan is a certified Project Management Professional. He is an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers where he serves on the Digital Energy Program Committee for the Annual Technical Conference and Exhibitions. Mr. Rajan holds a BS from the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, and an MS from the University of Kansas.

Sharon M. Reishus, IHS CERA Senior Director, is responsible for leading the development and delivery of the research content of IHS CERA’s North American Power Advisory Service. Ms. Reishus returned to the company in August 2010 after answering a call to public service as a Commissioner of the Maine Public Utilities Commission for seven years, where she served as Chairman her last two years and in addition to state regulatory duties engaged with other policymakers and stakeholders in regional and national activities on transmission, climate change, energy efficiency and the smart grid. While at CERA previously (prior to its purchase by IHS), she coauthored the CERA Multiclient Study Energy Restructuring at the Crossroads, and authored or coauthored several reports, including research on US energy policy legislation. Earlier she spent eight years in the utility industry as a financial analyst with the Maine Public Utilities Commission and as a planner with the Central Maine Power Company. She also worked in The White House as a Situation Room Duty Officer and as an intelligence analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency. Ms. Reishus holds a BS from Stanford University and an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Fabien Roques, IHS CERA Director, European Power, leads IHS CERA’s research on European power and carbon dioxide (CO₂) markets. His expertise includes market design and regulation, restructuring, and valuation work for corporate and government clients. Mr. Roques has particular expertise in using quantitative models to analyze strategic decisions such as investment under uncertainty. He has worked on numerous tailored consulting assignments for clients, including major European utilities, financial investors, and European regulators. Before joining IHS CERA Mr. Roques was with the International Energy Agency, where he contributed to a range of studies including the World Energy Outlook energy and CO₂ emission scenarios. Previously as an independent consultant and a researcher at the Cambridge University Electricity Policy Research Group, he worked on a range of projects related to market design, investment valuation, and portfolio optimization in European power markets. Mr. Roques holds an MSc from the Ecole Centrale Lyon and an MPhil and PhD from the University of Cambridge.

James Rosenfield is cofounder of IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates (IHS CERA) and is Senior Vice President of IHS. Mr. Rosenfield led IHS CERA’s growth as Managing Director responsible for operations, strategy, product, and business development. He is cochairman of CERAWeek, an event he created and whose evolution he has overseen for close to three decades. He has conceived, edited, and coauthored numerous IHS CERA reports; and was Series Production Executive for “Commanding Heights: The Battle for the World Economy,” an award-winning five-hour television documentary broadcast nationally over the Public Broadcasting Service. He serves as nonexecutive director on the boards of three private companies and as a founding member of SourceSquared LLC. Mr. Rosenfield was a Senior Fellow at the Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government (2005–07); and is a Member of the Corporation of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He received his undergraduate education at Harvard College and holds an MBA from Boston University.

Matthew J. Sagers, IHS CERA Senior Director, Energy Economics for Eurasia, is a well-known expert on energy, energy transportation systems, and regional economic development in the Former Soviet Union, including pipeline constraints and solutions in Eurasia, and is an authority on energy policy in that region. Dr. Sagers heads the IHS CERA Eurasian Transportation Forum, a platform for improving the transportation environment for oil and gas in the region. He is a key contributor to IHS CERA’s Russian and Caspian Advisory Services, including the Eurasian Oil Export Outlook, Eurasian Gas Export Outlook, and analysis of the Russian domestic oil market. Dr. Sagers’ recent research reports provide analysis of the Russian oil production and export outlook to 2030, Russian upstream and oil export taxation, Russian and Turkmen gas development prospects, the outlook for Russian gas consumption, flexibility in Russian gas supply, Russian liquefied petroleum gas issues, the Russian oil refining sector’s future prospects, oil markets in Kazakhstan, and new pipeline projects in Russia and Eurasia (including the East Siberia–Pacific Ocean pipeline), among other issues. In the past Dr. Sagers has also served on several World Bank missions, study teams, and advisory panels focused on oil pipelines in Russia and Kazakhstan. He has worked on the International Energy Agency’s Survey of the Russian Energy Sector and Survey of the Ukrainian Energy Sector. Prior to joining IHS CERA Dr. Sagers was Director of the Energy Service at PlanEcon, Inc., where he led that company’s analysis of the energy sector in the Former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, and prior to that was Chief of the Soviet Branch in the US Census Bureau’s Center for International Research. Previously he was an economic advisor to the newly formed Federated States of Micronesia and a professor of geography at Weber State University and the University of Virginia. He is a coauthor of The Chemical Industry in the USSR: An Economic Geography and of The Transportation of Soviet Energy Resources, as well as author of extensive articles, government reports, and other publications. Dr. Sagers holds a BS degree (magna cum laude) from Weber State University and MA and PhD degrees from The Ohio State University. 

Eduard is Research Director for EER’s Europe and Global Wind Power Advisory Services.   He has over 10 years of consulting and research experience in the energy sector.

Eduard coordinates and provides competitive strategy and market analysis to leading developers, utilities and equipment manufacturers in the wind industry on key trends and market opportunities. Eduard has written global studies analyzing the competitive strategies employed by turbine manufacturers and developers in the wind sector.

Prior to joining EER, Eduard worked seven years in market research and management consulting at International Venture Consultants where he developed his energy expertise working in projects for major oil & gas companies.

Eduard holds an MSc in Economics from Barcelona University.  He is based in IHS EER’s office in Barcelona, Spain. Eduard is fluent in English, Spanish and French.

Candida Scott, IHS CERA Senior Director, Cost and Technology Group, is responsible for the IHS CERA research forums that cover capital and operating cost analysis as well as the application of digital technologies in upstream exploration and production. Ms. Scott has over 30 years of international consulting experience and has tracked, monitored, and analyzed trends in offshore, onshore, liquefied natural gas, and downstream construction projects worldwide. She has been instrumental in developing the IHS CERA Upstream Capital Costs Index, the Downstream Capital Costs Index, and the Power Capital Costs Index. Prior to joining IHS CERA she most recently focused on cost engineering, field development planning, and conceptual design as well as development of the IHS cost engineering software QUE$TOR. Previously she was with Halliburton, where she focused on equity participation projects and on Brown and Root’s FIELDPLAN cost estimating software, and also helped set the strategic direction for Landmark/Halliburton’s real-time drilling in the earth model. A chartered mechanical engineer, Ms. Scott is a member of the IMechE and the Society of Petroleum Engineers. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Leicester University.

Clay Seigle, IHS CERA Director, leads IHS CERA’s Institutional Investor North America Advisory Service, delivering strategic insights and forecasts from IHS CERA’s oil, gas, and electric power teams to institutional investor clients. Mr. Seigle serves as editor of the Investors’ Energy Monthly and liaison between IHS CERA’s energy research experts and the institutional investor community. Previously he was Associate Director in the Global Oil group at IHS CERA, responsible for fundamental analysis of crude oil and refined products. In this role he was a regular contributor to IHS CERA’s flagship quarterly World Oil Watch and monthly Market Briefings and managed tailored consulting engagements for IHS CERA clients. Before joining IHS CERA Mr. Seigle worked at the US Department of Energy, at a Houston-based energy trading corporation, and as an independent consultant. Mr. Seigle holds a BA from the University of Texas at Austin and an MA from the Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies.

Christopher W. Sheehan is Senior Vice President, Director of M&A Research at IHS Herold, Inc. A member of IHS Herold’s Management Team, he is responsible for managing IHS Herold’s mergers and acquisitions (M&A) research and analysis, including overseeing the development of the M&A research team and managing an energy industry M&A database with more than 25,000 transactions. Mr. Sheehan has been with IHS Herold for 15 years. He is the author of IHS Herold’s annual Global Upstream M&A Review study and has presented the study findings to a global audience in the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East for the past five years. He joined Herold in 1995 and spent five years as a Senior Equity Analyst following North American exploration and production companies. Previously Mr. Sheehan was with McMahan Securities Co. L.P., where he served as Managing Director of a nonprofit subsidiary and as Database Manager and Securities Analyst specializing in oil and gas. Mr. Sheehan holds a BA and an MBA in from the University of Connecticut.

Farooq Sheikh, IHS CERA Director, Costs and Technology Group, is responsible for the Downstream Capital Costs Analysis Forum.  Mr. Sheikh has over 15 years of consulting experience in refining and petrochemicals, with expertise in operations, risk management, valuation, and business development.  Prior to joining IHS CERA he was Senior Product Line Manager for Gasification Technology Licensing at GE Energy.  Mr. Sheikh led business strategy and new product positioning in emerging markets such as methanol, substitute natural gas, and hydrogen.  Previously he worked as a Senior Strategy Consultant for Accenture in the downstream, with assignments in supply chain, fuels pricing, and trading and risk management.  Mr. Sheikh also worked for Compressor Controls Corporation in field engineering and project management for turbo-machinery control systems.  He led commissioning activities for refining and petrochemicals worldwide, including for fluidized catalytic cracking, residue catalytic cracking, hydrocracking, coking, ethylene, ammonia, and purified terephthalic acid.  Mr. Sheikh is a senior member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.  He holds a BS from the Indian Institute of Technology, an MS from Iowa State University, and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.

Enrique Sira, IHS CERA Director, leads IHS CERA’s Andean Energy and Mexico Energy Advisory Services. He is an expert in portfolio optimization, decision making, and capital allocation for the oil and gas industries. Mr. Sira has over ten years of experience in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries, where he has held positions ranging from field engineer to financial controller of international operations. His experience includes oil and gas exploration, business planning and strategy, business development, project finance, economic analysis, mergers and acquisitions, and risk analysis and management.

Mr. Sira has authored a number of IHS CERA Private Reports and Decision Briefs on hydrocarbon policy, strategy, and regulatory regimes in Latin America. He has also performed significant work in the areas of portfolio optimization, designed and implemented uncertainty characterization and management programs for exploration and production assets worldwide, and performed numerous project valuations and risk analysis internationally. In his academic and professional experience Mr. Sira has authored a number of research papers contributing to modern portfolio optimization theory, such as “Semi Variance as Real Project Portfolio Optimization Criteria with Application in the Oil and Gas Industry,” in the International Journal of Global Energy Issues. Mr. Sira holds a BSc from the Universidad Simon Bolivar (Venezuela), an MSc from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (United Kingdom), and a joint MBA/MA from the Wharton School of Business/Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania.

Leta Smith, IHS CERA Director, is an authority on upstream supply, focusing on current trends and challenges in exploration and production (E&P) and the implications of those trends for the future supply outlook. She directs and undertakes research for IHS CERA’s E&P Trends Forum and tracks oil productive capacity for the United States and Latin America. Among other current research efforts Dr. Smith was the principal author of the IHS CERA analysis of the shale gas potential outside of North America and coauthor of an evaluation of liquids production capacity to 2030.

Dr. Smith has over 15 years of experience in the petroleum industry, with expertise ranging from the reservoir to the global level. Before joining IHS CERA Dr. Smith was a Managing Consultant with IHS Inc., where she led studies and advised clients on reserves and production analysis, resource valuation, market studies, and strategic planning activities. Her professional experience also includes research in enhanced oil recovery and gas exploration technology development with the Institute for Energy Research and Amoco Production Research. Dr. Smith is a licensed Professional Geologist in the states of Texas and Wyoming. She holds a bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University and a PhD from the University of Wyoming.    

Shankari Srinivasan, IHS CERA Managing Director Europe, Global Gas, is part of IHS CERA's Senior Leadership Team. In addition to her management responsibilities Ms. Srinivasan is also head of IHS CERA’s European gas research and is responsible for the development of IHS CERA’s European gas analysis and its communication to clients. Ms. Srinivasan has also worked on numerous tailored consulting assignments for clients, including major gas producers, European utilities, and financial investors. She has extensive experience in providing strategic analysis and recommendations at the board and senior executive level. Before joining IHS CERA Ms. Srinivasan was Head of Gas Fundamentals at Centrica Energy. She is the author of numerous IHS CERA reports, including analyses of business models, supplier strategy, and short-term and long-term fundamentals. She was a primary contributor to the IHS CERA Special Report Securing the Future: Making Gas Interdependence Work. Ms. Srinivasan holds a BA from Brown University, an MSc from the University of Pennsylvania, an MSc from New York University, and an executive MBA from the Cranfield School of Management.

Michael Stoppard, Managing Director, is a member of IHS CERA’s Energy Research Council. He is a specialist of 20 years standing in the international gas business and is responsible for the development and coordination of IHS CERA’s global and interregional coverage of gas markets and liquefied natural gas (LNG). Mr. Stoppard currently leads the IHS CERA European Policy Dialogue, a multistakeholder engagement looking at long-term decarbonization of the European economy. In 2009–10 Mr. Stoppard led the development of the IHS CERA Global Energy Scenarios. Before joining IHS CERA Mr. Stoppard was a research fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies. In addition Mr. Stoppard served as a Parliamentary Special Advisor on energy regulation for the House of Commons Trade and Industry Committee in the United Kingdom. He is the author of numerous IHS CERA reports, including analyses of business models, gas and power convergence in Europe, and LNG trading. He was coauthor with Daniel Yergin of “The Next Prize,” published in Foreign Affairs. In 2010 Mr Stoppard also coauthored with Daniel Yergin a Special Paper, “The Voice of Gas.” Mr. Stoppard holds an honors degree from the University of York.

Venkat Suravarapu, IHS CERA Director, leads IHS CERA’s North American power market fundamentals research. He analyzes market conditions and industry structure; provides supply, demand, and price projections for the individual regional power markets; and is responsible for the development and delivery of the quarterly IHS CERA North American Power Market Briefings. His recent research also includes analyses of the New England Forward Capacity Auction, California’s Renewables Portfolio Standards, and the tight supply conditions in the Alberta power market.

Before joining IHS CERA Mr. Suravarapu was with National Energy & Gas Transmission (PG&E National Energy Group), analyzing the market fundamentals and providing asset management and analytical support. Formerly he was a Product Manager for a major telecom service provider in India. Mr. Suravarapu holds a Bachelor of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, a Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.

Reese Tisdale is a Research Director for Emerging Energy Research (EER), where he directs the research and analysis for the North America and Europe Solar Power Advisory Services. Mr. Tisdale has written and directed global studies analyzing the competitive strategies employed in the concentrating solar power, photovoltaic, and concentrated photovoltaic sectors. He has an extensive background in strategic planning, market research, and channel analysis. Previously Mr. Tisdale managed environmental remediation activities for leading oil and gas industry players. He holds a BS from The University of the South, Sewanee, and a Master of Arts degree in international business from Thunderbird School of Global Management.

William R. Veno, IHS CERA Senior Director, Global Downstream, is an expert on crude oil and refined product markets, on refining and marketing, and on energy economics and strategy. Mr. Veno is a leader of IHS CERA’s global refining and marketing research activity, with particular expertise in North American refined product demand, the transportation sector, and refined product pricing. Mr. Veno is also a research leader of IHS CERA’s Automotive Scenarios Advisory Service, specializing in light-duty vehicle fleet modeling and analysis. He performed the downstream market analysis for IHS CERA’s recent study Growth in the Canadian Oil Sands: Finding the New Balance. He contributes to IHS CERA’s quarterly World Refined Products Outlook and coordinated the oil demand analysis for the IHS CERA Multiclient Study on global energy scenarios, Dawn of a New Age: Global Energy Scenarios for Strategic Decision Making—The Energy Future to 2030. He directed the IHS CERA studies Gasoline and the American People 2007, Global Oil Trends, and Westward Flows and Refiners’ Woes: The Growing Role of Imports in US Gasoline Supply.

Prior to joining IHS CERA he directed the Oil Service at an international forecasting company, where he was responsible for analysis of world and US oil markets and for crude and product price outlooks. He has conducted numerous studies for clients in the oil and energy industries and for national governments, including evaluations of refined product demand, refinery production and supply logistics, global geopolitical events, economic trends, and regulatory policies on oil markets. He has participated in several National Petroleum Council studies, including analyses of petroleum product supply, the cleaner fuels value chain, and fuel inventory dynamics. Previously, Mr. Veno was Senior Petroleum Economist at Petróleos de Venezuela (USA) in New York, responsible for short- and long-term oil market analysis for the US and global markets, and had similar responsibilities as a Senior Analyst with Conoco and the US Department of Energy. Mr. Veno holds a BS from the University of Notre Dame, an MS from Dartmouth College, and an MS from Columbia University.

Jone-Lin Wang, IHS CERA Managing Director and Head of Global Power Group, is an expert on electricity markets, economics, and strategy. Dr. Wang’s current research focuses on power industry structure, power market fundamentals, economics of generation options, and the resurgence of nuclear power. Dr. Wang speaks about electric power issues frequently and works with clients on business strategy and market fundamentals. She is an elected member of the Conference of Business Economists.

Prior to joining IHS CERA Dr. Wang was Manager of Corporate Strategic Planning at the Electric Power Research Institute, responsible for analysis of industry trends, formulation of business strategies, and assessment of new businesses. Earlier in her career Dr. Wang was a research associate at the Council of Economic Planning and Development of the Taiwan government, where she directed studies on energy modeling and emergency planning. She also taught economics at the University of Southern California. Dr. Wang holds a BS from National Taiwan University and a PhD from the University of Southern California.

K. F. Yan, IHS CERA Senior Director, is a member of IHS CERA’s Global Oil research team. Mr. Yan has over 20 years’ experience in the Chinese oil and gas industry, specializing in operations strategy, project development, and policy. He is an expert on the analysis of Chinese oil demand, refining, and industry regulation. Mr. Yan leads IHS CERA’s advisory service coverage of the Chinese oil market and advises IHS CERA clients on energy investment strategies in China. Prior to joining IHS CERA Mr. Yan held senior management positions at ARCO China, managing oil downstream business development and leading ARCO’s government relations for upstream operations. Previously Mr. Yan served Eni as Senior Advisor to its chief representative in China; and at Agip China he held management positions in business development and government relations. Mr. Yan holds an honors diploma from Beijing Foreign Studies University and an advanced degree from the Beijing Institute of International Economic Management. He is based in Beijing

Kenneth L. Yeasting, IHS CERA Senior Director, is an expert on the interstate natural gas pipeline and storage industries and also specializes in eastern North America gas and power markets. Mr. Yeasting focuses on issues related to gas prices and basis; pipeline flows and development; storage usage and development; and the impacts of liquefied natural gas on gas prices, gas flows, and the need for new infrastructure. He has authored numerous IHS CERA reports on supply and demand impacts, market strategies, new development effects, and gas trends. Before joining IHS CERA Mr. Yeasting had a long career at ANR Pipeline Company, where he held a number of executive positions. Most recently he was Director of Energy Forecasting, and also held the positions of Director of Revenue Forecasting, Director of Market Research and Planning, and Director of Strategic Planning, among others. With the ANR Storage Company he was Director of Planning and Regulatory Affairs and Director of Financial Planning and Control, among other positions. He also worked for the Michigan Consolidated Gas Company. Mr. Yeasting holds a BBA and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Xizhou Zhou, IHS CERA Associate Director, Asia Gas and Power, is a core member of IHS CERA’s research and consulting team in Asia and manages the flagship China Energy Advisory Service. He also leads IHS CERA’s China gas and power practice and covers the key fuels and technologies including coal, gas, and renewables. Mr. Zhou is one of the primary authors of the China Energy Watch and of the IHS CERA Multiclient Study Feeding the Dragon: China’s Energy Future. He also participated in the IHS CERA Multiclient Study Balancing Competition and Integration: Southeast Asia’s Energy Future and contributes to the Global Power Forum and the IHS Global Scenarios. Mr. Zhou’s recent work included analysis on China’s imminent carbon price policies, the impact of power sector reforms on utilities, and the economics and drivers of gas-fired power in China. Prior to joining IHS CERA he was a consultant engaged in regulatory and energy economics projects at Industrial Economics, Inc. in Boston. He was also a research analyst at the World Resources Institute in Washington, DC, where he focused on energy and transportation in developing Asia and Latin America. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese and proficient in Spanish, Mr. Zhou holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Environmental Management degrees from Yale University.
