Giving our electric power participants more complete coverage of critical issues

We are pleased to announce expanded and integrated coverage of electric power. In all, CERAWeek 2009 will provide three days of in depth and comprehensive insight into the future of the global and North American power industries. This includes distinguished international speakers and experts. Sessions will address the critical challenges and strategies facing the power business -- including perspectives on coal, nuclear, natural gas; generation, transmission, and distribution; finance, risks management and prices; electric vehicles and the future of clean technology; carbon policy and strategies; regulatory strategies and the implications of the current economic stress on future investment and strategy.

This program builds on last year's event, and represents a long term commitment by CERA to address the growing uncertainties and critical choices faced by decision makers, investors and policy officials on electric power future.

McCloskey Coal at CERAWeek

The McCloskey Coal Conference at CERAWeek will scrutinize the environmental and economic footprint of coal in North America and throughout the world. Conference participants will receive the latest McCloskey forecasts for steam coal and coking coal as well as a critical examination of the advances role for various clean coal technologies.

IHS Herold Pacesetters: Managing through the Maelstrom

The focus of our first Houston Conference is the world's best energy companies—"Pacesetters." The format consists of four roundtable discussions centered on the unprecedented challenges facing the energy industry today. Moderated by a senior IHS Herold analyst, each panel of top executives from Pacesetter companies will provide insights on key global industry issues.

IHS Herold will spotlight how the world's "Pacesetter" energy companies are responding to the current economic crisis. Four roundtable discussions will provide insights into such key issues as the impact of the credit crunch, financial market collapse, increasingly limited access to resources, changing fiscal terms, volatility in pricing and demand, shortage of skilled people, and soaring costs. Panelists will discuss how companies can enhance valuation and performance in the future by restructuring portfolios, prioritizing projects, and allocating money and resources.

The Houston meeting is the first in a series of four regional meetings being held across the United States under the auspices of the Council's Energy Security, Innovation & Sustainability (ESIS) Initiative. Since its launch a year ago, the ESIS Initiative has conducted a series of dialogues exploring the linkages between our nation's need for greater energy security, the global imperative for environmental sustainability and U.S. economic competitiveness at the enterprise and national level. This process has brought together high-level experts from industry, labor, academe and the policy community to form conclusions and ideas on how to create the enabling conditions that will stimulate and accelerate private sector innovation and investment in sustainable energy solutions.

Leveraging the insights generated at the Dialogues and the wisdom of the ESIS Initiative CEO-level Steering Committee, the Council crafted Prioritize: 100-Day Energy Action Plan for the 44th President of the United States. Prioritize was released at the National Press Club on September 9, 2008 and has since drawn the attention of the national press, policy experts and federal lawmakers.

The ESIS Initiative Regional meeting series will broaden and deepen understanding of the drivers for innovation and investment in sustainable energy solutions in specific areas of the country and the economy.

Attendance at the meeting is by invitation-only. For further information on the meeting and/or to request an invitation please contact hloveman@marathonoil.com.
