The convergence of two trends, concern over energy security and a widening differential between prices for oil and coal, is fostering greater interest in coal-to-liquids (CTL) development. Although projects to produce CTL face many challenges in becoming commercial, implementation of CTL technology has the potential to become a game-changing event in oil and coal markets.
